No I didn't sell the alero, I just bought another vehicle. This one is going to be the winter beater (maybe the best looking one out there) lol.

Congrats on the purchase man and nice Intrigue. I paid $2k for my 1999 when I bought it. There nice cars imo and that 3.5L Twin Cam V6 is a good engine with some nice get up and go to it.

Me likey!!

My neighbor has an Intrigue, same color.

Sadly though, his car is a POS. Makes me very :(

Grandma has one. The steering feels cheap and clunks since new. The cars ride isnt the best and there is tons of interior noise. My G6 rides better and is way quieter inside.

I just dont like the intrigue.

Thanks everyone! And yeah, it has plenty of low-end torque. I was amazed by the torque in this engine compared to the 3400.

Congrats and you will love it. I drove mine to its death for work but only at the end did everything fall apart.

Just be careful with that motor.

I see a ton of Intrigue's in the junk yard that arent wrecked. Only leave transmission or motor issue...

Idk man that engine is known to be reliable. The 3.5L LX5 Twin Cam V6 aka Shortstar was based off the L47 Aurora V8 which was based off the Northstar engine. The 3.5L LX5 was also on Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1999 and 2000 and the Northstar made Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1995, 1996, and 1997. One of the 3.5L LX5's features is its limp home fail-safe mode which allows the engine to continue running for a limited time (around 100 miles) without any coolant. The engine does this by shutting down cylinders alternatively to help cool the engine and keep it running. Its also has a coil-at-plug ignition system with extended-life spark plugs for greater engine performance and reduced maintenance requirements. Plus the engine had no scheduled service requirements for 100,000 miles and featured Teflon crankshaft seals to prevent fluid leaks for more than 150,000 miles. Just thought I would throw that info out there lol.

I think the only problem with the 3.5 is the headgaskets, like the 3400 head bolts they tend to get loose after a while. It only affected some model years though (correct me if I'm wrong). Besides the intake manifold gaskets run dry (no coolant running though it) so no leaks there. Someone said that GM took the northstar V8, cut it down to 6 cylinders and screwed up. Not sure about that lol.

I cannot say that they are bad engines, but I would take the 3800 powered intrigue over the 3.5 intrigue any day. They are notorious for burning oil and in terms of the intrigue, they actually accelerate slower than the 3800 intrigue because of less low-end torque. The 3800 is just as good on gas, if not better.

Yeah the northstars have the same problem with the oil. The 3800 is better on gas because its a OHV single valve and the 3.5 is DOHC.

My Grandma has the 3800 intriguie. It runs well but like I said, clunks and the handling/ride sucks.

I goto the junk yards every now and then, just stating what I seen. Out of all the Intrigues (I would say about 18 of them) only one had the 3800... The junkyard marks what motors are good, and not a one of those intriguies had a good motor.
