Which Saturn? I had a '93 SC2 that weighed in at 2400 pounds, (compared to the 93 Mitsubishi Eclipse's 2700 pounds), with a 5-speed, dump the clutch at 3000, yeah, it hauled ass for back then. What did you do, race your Aunt?

Gotta be the weight, then, unless it's a factory freak and yours is sub factory - factory.......

Maybe your Alero is due for a tune up? We get so comfortable with our rides that over time we do not realize that the old girl is not what it once was and having something like this happen wakes us up!

Saturns are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, they aren't too bad.
I've had more than a few.
But usually they aren't rockets.
My current Saturn is an 01 SL SOHC with 200k on it... put 3 people in it with luggage, turn the AC on, and try to go up a hill.... good luck....
There were two S-series models... one was SOHC and one was DOHC
Occasionally you will find one that is relatively quick.... but rare.

just because it's a 4 cyl doesn't mean it's going to be slow either. people that drive my ecotec sometimes think it's a 6.

Got a track close by? If your not running in the 15.1 to 15.6 range something is up bud! Mine ran a 15.2 bone stock, paper filter and all

That's why you're running so fast now, you got a factory freak :p

Really off topic B, but Im headed to the track on Saturday. I want one last kick-at-the-can N/A before I boost this thing and really try to blow this SOB sky high! hahahhahha I think I am ready to take down my record of 14.1 @ 100.25 dude.... wish me luck man! Going to be running 16" tires this time, so see if I can pick up a tenth or two. That 13.9 is my goal, would love to finally hit that dam number

Now, as for those coils, have you tested them? They should all be between 5-7K ohms

ohms tester, one pin on each terminal and resistance should be in the range above

Some Aleros just seem slow, some seem fast.
I've had quite a few...
An 03 with 13k miles and a 3400 felt significantly slower than an 01 with 38k miles on it...
Really I don't know why but sure would like to.

because butt dynos are inaccurate
my friend's stock manual neon feels quicker than it is just because the ride is harsh with shifting and all that haha

Unless you can test/drag both cars side by side it be hard to tell buy only a "feeling" which i thing is all you got out of the Saturn ;)
My Bro got an 1996 Saturn SC 5 speed & sure he does kick me at start but as soon as i hit 70-80km/h & floor it i kiss his car good buy & he becomes a distant memory in my rear view mirror in no time :yahoo:
Anyhow like i said if you can't try both cars side by side then all you got is a feeling some cars feels fast but they are not once you try it vs other cars

My sons 98 SW2 5 speed is faster than my modified Alero from a dead stop, but on an autocross coarse it cant touch the Alero.

I will be honest I definitely know that there is alot of variance in the Alero's in terms of acceleration. Mine literally could put you back in the seat while my friends (also a 3400) with less miles felt like a grannymobile when I drove it. from 0-60, I estimate i was in the lower 7 seconds which is pretty decent out of a 170 hp family sedan

i forgot to mention that I had found that my alero had its transmission and engine controls retuned at a dealership when it was nearly new... i am wondering if there is an alternate factory tune out there

Yeah! that is what happen the first time i floor it at 80km/h , i hold it for about ~3 sec & i was over 120km/h (~125km/h) i was like... WOW!! , lucky me i got a seat to hold me back lol!
Anyhow now my car feels pretty much ordinary lost some power after almost 2 years , summer is coming ill soon work on it to get back that power up & a little more if i can?(exhaust)

I owned a Saturn SC2 for four years and it definitely wasn't faster than my 3400 Alero. Off the line it was surprisingly snappy, maybe a little better than the Alero, but anything after that was awful. Passing cars was almost impossible. Not surprising, it only had 124hp... I think if you spent more time driving the car you wouldn't be so impressed.
