I found these on the list, will they be candidates for R&R and will it bolt up, work right ect... without any modifications?

I got 183000mi on her now gotta see that 250K mark!

Thanks in advance

They will bolt up, but IDK if the gearing is the same in the GA and Alero 4 bangers.

I know the V6 Alero and GA SE share the same gears, but the GT is different

Interesting. How'd it blow? What happened?

Mine's at 218,500 miles and no signs of letting up.

all 4T40E have the same gear ratios, so no need to worry about that, the 01 will work without any issues, the 97 i'm not sure if there is any difference in the sensors, park/neutral switch, that stuff, but the 01 will work 100%

Yeah I figured the 01 would be a best bet, I might get the 97 just for the hell of it, it "blew" during the big snow storm we had, got it stuck, ever since then it was slipping. a few days ago i was driving and it made a bunch of noise, hard noise, and started slipping, shifting hard. So now it makes a grinding noise, we dropped the pan last night, tons of metal in the jet black, never changed fluid. So, lack of care on the trans, and abuse. I learned my lesson! Thanks for the response guys!!!

hmm, did you spin real bad when you were stuck? maybe it blew the diff up? ion C2, good to know the 4t40e holds up pretty well under boost, makes me feel more confident on my boosted eco having a lil stronger 4t45e in there :)

N-body and j-body cars have the 4T40E on the L61. The 3400s are the only ones with the 4T45E on the n-body, and they have a far higher failure rate than that of the 4-cylinder equipped 4T40Es.

That's unfortunate.

power handling for the 4t40e, 200ft/lb tq, 4t45e, 350ft/lb tq, hmm I wonder which one id be better off with? and Im not sure whats wrong with the alero 4t45es honestly maybe their just junk idk, but the ones on the deltas have been abused with 300+ hp and 300+ tq and with just a trans cooler and have been fine.

Maybe they fixed the transmission for that platform.

But anyways, mine's making a bit more than that, without a trans cooler and the temps are fine and it holds up fine.

my f23 is holding up pretty good. im not making huge power, but it sees alot of clutch drops and terrible drivers

That trans on the 97 probably won't work. It *should* be a 4T60-E on a 97.
