Just to double check..cam tower installation question

While reinstalling the intake and exhaust cam towers I noticed that i can't get the tower to sit down flat on the head to bolt it. I assume this is because the cams are still in their locked timing position. My question is, is this what you do to reinstall, just tighten them down gradually? Or do i have to rotate the engine?Also having oil spill from cam towers onto gaskets when I flip it over. I am planning on changing the tower cover gaskets on both sides, should I just drain the oil out of them and then use assembly lube, or will they be alright with whats left in there.?

Yes, the gap closes when you tighten the covers down. You gotta clean the cam towers as much as you can to keep oil from getting on the gasket but it's not that big of a deal.. It is very annoying.
