Dexcool Cap Stuck

Anyone know of any reason why the seal under the coolant cap might be stuck? I could easily twist the cap off, but theres another sealer/cap that seems to be stuck on there. I tried twisting and prying it off but to no avail. anyone have any input?

I was afraid of prying too hard in the chance of me breaking something.

Yeah that's the rest of the cap. It broke. Use a screwdriver to pry up around the edges until it pops out. It'll likely break along the edges a bit.

Get the GM part, not one from any parts retailer, but the dealership. Otherwise they'll all break. I went through like 4 of them in a matter of weeks.

Maybe, but the first thing people do when they have a cooling system issue is go to AutoZone and get a cap (that is not designed to the right tolerances or quality) so it might be a factory GM one or it might not. From the top they look almost perfectly identical.

I think it's $13 at the dealer..

Also, watch your eye. I've had 2 explode on me when you pry them out. The spring loaded section breaks apart and shrapnel comes flying at you.

I had this happen to me about 2 weeks ago. I got my new cap in about 2 days.
