So, tried to drive the Alero today, and I'm getting a grinding noise along with a vibration feeling... Happens when the car moves... I'm guessing it's the rack and pinion, but not 100% sure.... Just another issue that this Alero is giving me.... I'm about ready to just get rid of it. :banghead::mad2::banghead:
Am I correct that it is the rack and pinion?
wheel hub or axle imo, when does it make the noise? accelerating only or always?

Not unless it only happens while turning the steering wheel.
More likely a pad dragging on a disc or a wheel hub going bad. Maybe a friend can help you locate the source of the noise...

it happens when the car moves... Doesn't matter if it's turning, going straight, forwards or reverse.... It's grinding and I can feel it pretty well.... noise speeds up as the car does, and doesn't really change when I turn the car....

when my hub was bad it made a noise going straight and turning changed it and the noise was gone.

Yep, definitely sounds like your hub...

Figured out what is wrong.... It's my suspension.... something busted and now my spring is rubbing on my front passenger side tire.... Also, my tire has a nice gash on the outside wall, so I have NO idea what happened to it..... Here's a couple pics... They are cell phone and it was at night, but you can kinda see what it looks like....

Here's the gash... I can see into the tire, like it's pretty deep...

Nope... The roads are not to bad here.... There is a piece that you can barely see on the top of the pic... It's a piece of metal that looks like it fell from the top and is broke straight through.... The car was just fine the last time I drove it.... I just got in today after letting it sit there for a couple days and heard/felt the rubbing....
Now, we have had some pretty epic weather (epic for us) and they have been using a lot of salt this year, so that could have played a good part in it... I try to wash the car and up under there as much as I can to get the salt out of there, but can't do it every day.....

Yeah, it's not all that uncommon of a problem for all sorts of cars.
