Hey all iam looking to do something to my exhaust to give it a bit more sound. It looks like the muffler on my alero goes in one side and out the same side...or something. am i correct in thinking that i could just cut off the muffler and slap on a piece of straght pipe?

I have it like that on my car for almost three years.

You could but it would sound like crap. Get a dynomax super turbo or flowmaster 44 or 80 series and have a shop put it on for you. And whatever you do do not buy the pacesetter kit.

you want to completely remove your muffler, and replace it with just straight pipe? and u think this will give you "a bit more sound"? its going to sound like absolute shit, and be so rediculously loud youre going to regret it about 5 seconds after starting your car.

That's the truth, I had a v8 dodge with no cat and a very loud glass pack, and it was quieter than my alero With stock cat and no muffler/resonator. (I put my own exhaust on and ran out of time in the shop, so I only had it that way for a weekend, thank God.)

i am aware of the noise levels. My regal gs had a muffler delete and yes it was loud as shit. Iam assuming they make a 40 series with dual outlets on the left?

If you want to put a muffler on I wouldn't use anything but a flowmaster 80. The 80 series by far gives the best sound for this car.

thanks for the input man
I have a 40 series on mine and I love the sound. Not too loud and not too quiet. Its just right. That and it has a deep roar when I get on it :)

The 40 series tends to drone quite a bit at highway speeds, and sounds kind of tinny IMO, but if you couple it with a resonator it would be great.

and if you want to run duals you need to find a transverse muffler (Camaro/firebird muffler)

single outlet looks the best on a stock bumper.....

or dual outlet on the same side, like stock is.

Or you could do dual outlets like I did!!

BTW Good luck, I got pulled over in Hillsbourgh for "Loud exhaust" but since my car has PA plates, the cop couldn't do a thing  And that's when I had the 80 on my car
