I have an 02 GLS that makes a whining noise as long as the car is in drive. I can hear it well under 30 mph and it sounds like it winds down when i stop. The belt is not wet and in good shape. Noise comes from around Power steering pump/ pulley area. I can pinpoint whats going on... any ideas?

I am almost 100% sure it's the belt tensioner going bad. That's what happened to me before it decided to die one day. Get it checked out.

does it go with engine rpms? or when you go?

Push on the belt with the engine off. If you can push it more than an inch or so without using a lot of force, the tensioner is suspect.

Yep, it does intensify with RPMs. It is the tensioner pulley. thats what i thought at first . not a bad fix at all, thanks

Whenever I hear a whining noise in my car its usually the gf. Lol J/k
