Hey everyone, I'm new here and I just bought a 2002 alero with some body damage for a winter beater... I paid 750 for it. I call it the beer can cuz it looks like a crushed beer can... I don't really plan on modding it cuz that's what my other car is for... I am putting an auto start in it today and that's probably all I will do to it...

lol cobalt's are slow with out the s/c or t/c they are like go-kart slow. with the s/c t/c they can put up a fight with a firebird 'MAYBE'

coming from people with cars just as slow lol. I am sure the 3.4L is faster then the 2.2L or 2.4L alero but its pretty much the same thing

well their is always exceptions lol. I know mines nothing fast but it as heck works pretty good for a 4 banger until you hit highway speeds then well thats when I miss my aurora it had much more pep on the highway

-Alero-

thats why you make your car faster, if you dont want to be slow

Thanks for the warm welcome...
I didn't come in here bashing aleros so why do you have to bash my car? I never said it was better than an alero.

Alerojester
10-14-2010, 11:13 AM
its not to bash you personally its just that alot of people on here don't like cobalts. its to each his own so with that in mind don't take things too serously unless its car related

Chill Pill yo........Its just a joke, there are several members who have gone from an alero to a cobalt. I always used to run with the ss' and redline's in denver because they were a cool group who like GM and FWD.......but they were always pissed they couldn't keep up.....

How hard is it to get a car that's looks like a crushed beer can registered in North Dakota?

ndbalt07
01-18-2011, 10:58 PM
I didn't have a problem getting it registered. I just had to have the state patrol look at it and make sure all the lights and horn and blinkers worked.

Pretty sure my 2.4 can keep up with a 3.4 just as easy. My whole family has 3.4 Aleros except for me. ive had my fair share of racing also..

Welcome...my Alero has a salvage title too, but you would never be able to tell it did.

I'm kinda with the other two. sure its not a car, but it will still eat a cobalt ;)

Not a fan of the spoiler, and not sure about that chrome thing on the front (tow hook?) I do however seriously like that snail. Good work man.

fellow Cobalt owner here, welcome! I own both so all good, and to those bashing the Cobalts stock performance, yes the 3.4 is a "little" quicker than the 2.2 and i say a little because its not that much faster, and have you compared a 2.2 alero to a 2.2 cobalt stock vs stock? its not even close.

Not a fan of the spoiler,

Stock spoiler

Looks good though. I don't hate Cobalts, I'm also not in love with them either. I do like the fact it's a 4 cyl turbo AMERICAN car :D

Ugliest stock spoiler I ever saw, but oh well. I'd like to see a 3800 swap on one of these, that would be fun, although I suspect it wouldn't fit.

The more I dig into the car, I'm finding it a mut of sorts, has Toyota parts in it too.

No it wouldn't, plus the stock engine these cars come with can be built to destroy an L67 and weigh alot less.

Lucalare
04-18-2011, 10:22 PM
But put that same amount of money into the L67 and see what it would do? Moot point though if it won't fit.

I can't have much say on the matter...I went from a salvaged 98 dodge neon engine in a 99 body to my 3.4 alero. Felt like going from a donkey to a ferrari...all about perspective.

I had an opportunity to buy a cobalt back when I was buying a car. It had pretty bad reviews and the alero's were better. You can see which route I went lol.

Ecotecs have a GM build book good for 1400+hp, yeah L67 are not desirable in my book, heavy ass boat anchors!

Edit: It would take some serious fab skills to get even a 3400 in there, hell, the L61 I have takes up most of the bay space, it was a squeeze getting the MP62 on there.

it runs, just doesn't drive, and i'm proud of the decent time I ran but I need to finish this supercharger setup and built motor so I can really put a good time down......

AZFire316
04-18-2011, 10:57 PM
KB2.3 for you, then a new engine once that blower destroys the motor :D

kwhauck
04-18-2011, 11:01 PM
no KB, 1.6whipple, like some of the cobalt guys were working with, and yes i'll run it on the stock motor just for a little bit to get a base tune, but then the built 3.7stroker goes in. I have 90% of the parts for that motor, just need a few small things and get it balanced assembled......

AZFire316
04-18-2011, 11:05 PM
yeah, now that IM s/c'd im starting to get more and more into it, those nuts over on css.net are trying to put MP112s on now, they already have Magnuson MP90 kits now, but that seems like a waste. and Whipples are bad ass, I like Kenne Bell SCs but they are too expensive to mess with.

Edit: your car is turning into a straight up beast, once you get that 3.7L monster build and installed, I'd love to see that monster pull down the track.

kwhauck
04-18-2011, 11:10 PM
supercharged by corky bell is a great read, and those damn cobalt guys, always thinking that bigger is better, still gonna get heat soak with all of the damn eatons.......

my whipple will kill any results an m90 would have given me with less heat soak and more room since the 1.6whipple is just as small as the m62

AZFire316
04-18-2011, 11:15 PM
true, Ive been thinking of installing an icebox to help heat soak on race day, I switched up to a 3.2 pulley for now because the 2.7 was just heating that sucker up and killing power.
