I got a letter in the mail today and I was curious to see if anyone else got this.

Dear Ms. ME,

This notice is to inform you that your Oldsmobile factory vehicle warranty has expired, or may be about to expire, depending on your current miles. However, we have just introduced a new affordable extended warranty program that has been proven to save customers like you, thousands of dollars in repair bills. You have been assigned owner ID number blah blah blah... for this program.

Ms. ME, call us immediately with the exact miles and VIN number on your Oldsmobile to discuss options and take advantage of our current limited time offer.

Due to the extreme nature of this program, we can make this offer available for 72 hours only. This exlusive program will not be announced to the general public.
Choose the plan that's right for you: Up to 7 years or 125,000 miles.
Option A covers: Engine, Fuel system, Transmission/transaxle and drive train componets. Even if the failure results from ordinary wear and tear & much, much, more.
Option B includes all of option A plus: Steering, front suspension, brakes, electrical and air conditioning systems, even if failure results from ordinary wear and tear. Rental car coverage & much, much, more.
Option C, includes both options A and B, Our bumper to bumper coverage:
Engine cooling system, computers and much more even if failure results from ordinary wear and tear. 24-hour roadside assistance including towing, flat tire change, battery jump, out of gas fuel delivery and locksmith/key service.
---------------------------------------
Now what I don't understand, is why does it say that this offer is only available for 72 hours? Just doesn't sound right to me. It doesn't have an actual name of the warranty or anything. Doesn't say anything about GM either, just DS (Dealer Services). This may be all good, I don't know. I was just wondering if anyone else has got anything like this. Any input would be nice. Thanks in advance :)

Sounds like your dealer let a third party warantee company know when you purchased it so that they could make some money off ya once your warantee expired. You'll probably have to pay a huge fee to get this warantee and even then you'll probably have a bunch of bullcrap restrictions like "void if you go over a certain amount of miles a year" or "void if you have any aftermarket parts on your car" so lets say you have a wheel hub go bad or something, they probably won't fix it cause you have aftermarket wheels.

If the warantee was actually thru GM, it would have branding and what not all over it.

Letsay you do get the warantee, I gaurantee you that your dealership would get a cut of the profit.

That's why I wanted to post it here. I was kinda weary about it. Maybe I should take the letter to the dealership on Monday and see what they say?

Probably a good idea. I'd rather go thru GM for an extended warantee.

Only warantee I got with my car was the GM Certified Used, and thats long since expired.

I have received and threw away that letter countless times. I have a third party warranty, but I got it through the dealer, and it is a known company. There are plenty of companies out there lining up to take your money and find a reason to deny all your claims, or just go out of business and keep your money. IMO, you are more likely to win the Publisher's Clearinghouse than find a reputable company in junk mail. Toss it, and ask your GM dealer what they can offer you.

Excellent idea! 3'rd party are horrible! I bought GM extended myself and glad to know I don't have any real worries for 6 years/120 000km.

I agree with 3.4, I have heard some serious horror stories. I have to give Ultimate Warranty credit, though, cuz they have been great so far (saved me about $1200 in repairs since April). These guys are few and far between, definitely research the company you are considering, it means everything.

Good catch, I did snag the pic from the Net, but it was the color selection page on the build-your-own section of the Olds site. I don't have Photoshop and I haven't had the car that long, so I don't have any good pics yet. I did my sig with MS paint  I guess maybe TireRack swiped the pic, too
