Hi everyone,
I just purchased a 99 Alero with 60,000 a couple of days ago. It is a 4 dr gl with the 2.4 engine. I love the car despite all the negitive things I heard and read about it. However, I do have one concern after the car warms up the shift from 1st to 2nd it has a kick, almost like it has a shift kit in it. That would be fine, but most times the shift is followed by a little studder or hesitation. It only seems to do this under normal driving conditions at slow speeds withe little acceleration. If i the gas pedal is 3\4- to fully depressed it doesnt seem to shift hard or studder, nor does it do it at any other shift point. All i did since I got it was an oil change, air filter and fuel filter. So my question is has any one had any similar problems, or is it just normal. How is it supossed to shift when warmed up? Any diganosis, thoughts or comments would be very helpful. Thanks Ron

i have the same thing and it's been doing this since i bought the car when it was new, and now i have over 55k on it so if it is a problem i havent had to deal with it yet :knockonwood:... and it's the same thing hard at lower speeds/hesitation and harder accel. no kick/hest.

Yea, my car does the same thing. It's not constant, like everytime I take off but if I'm driving in a parking lot, slow down for speed bumps and then take off again. It does it right before I switch from 1st to 2nd gear. I had my Dad drive it and he told me that it was normal for cars to do that at slow steady speeds and it shouldn't be anything to worry about. Hopefully, the saying "Father knows best," is true in this case.
