Ehh.. I don't like that box a whole lot. Go with a traditional slot port. And 2.48 cubes? Is that before or after port displacement? What is the port area? 5/8 mdf??? If you want to go with a prefab, you need to find someone who knows what they are doing.
Now to your speaker options... When the speakers are given with numbers, that would be their "recommended" box size. If they say 2.0 cubes, then through factory testing, they believe that the speaker typically performs optimally in that size enclosure. Some speakers sound better ported, some sound better sealed.
With the subwoofer options you have given, it's hard to decide between them, since none of them are that high of quality, you really won't notice much of a difference. Ryan may step in and throw you a few options. I've finally been able to hear a few setups with American Bass subs, and I was rather impressed. A few other routes you may look at that won't run you hardly more if any would be DC Audio level 2 or 3's http://www.dcsoundlab.com/woofers.html or even the Fi ssd series. https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraudio.com/sess/utn154bfa73b865693/shopdata/0050_Speakers/0040_SSD/product_overview.shopscript
Could you link your amplifier on here please? A lot of times "500 watts" doesn't mean 500 watts rms. Then again typically memphis had their amplifiers name to their power ratings...

That box is atrocious... Someone barfed on it.
I may have some sub options, I will get back with ya tonight.
Given that amp theres not many options though.
I know I can do Hifonics HiFi 12's for a decent price. They would work out right for you. Around $100 per pair. Maybe less/more but a rough estimate. I dont have pricing in front of me.

do you know the rms on them?

05-24-2010, 01:23 PM
300 WRMS DVC 4 Ohms.
You can wire them to 1 Ohm, get the full 500 WRMS from your amp. You wont notice the difference between 500 WRMS vs 600 WRMS...
They would probably work in that box you posted also.

or are hifonics better than kenwoods? and can SVC subs be wired to 1 ohm?
Ryan from Ohio

It would take 4 of those 12's to get to 1 Ohm.
Im not sure what your goal is. The subs selected so far are low end, and now you are after 4-6 subs.
You would be best suited to figure out what you want. Set a budget and go from there. Otherwise your going to end up with many low end subs where you could get 1-2 good subs and be done with it.
$44 is a cheap sub. I think I can do the HiFis for $40 each.
I would highly suggest getting 1-2 good subs vs 6 crap subs. You will thank me later! More crappy subs isnt better than 1-2 good subs. Not even close.

Now honestly, get a budget on what you would be willing to spend on two subwoofers. There is more to bass and sound quality than the quantity of drivers. (subwoofers) Get a budget on speakers and an amplifier and a few of us on here could give you a few legitimate options. Do not go the four or even 6 driver route. You'll be wasting your money in place that you do not need to.

You'll never get 4 12"s into the trunk of an Alero, the trunk at best is 13 cubes, its best to at most only use half of the air space in a trunk of best SPL. Unless you have the box going into the cabin of the car it's not going to happen. By the way that box is only 2.48 TOTAL, thats only 1.2 for each sub. The box in my car takes up 8 cubes so I had to seal it off from the trunk, with somewhere around 2000rms I'm doing 143.1 db, thats loud. I could build you a good box for 2 12"s ported for 100$ to 120$ plus shipping that will be better then any prefab box, just depends on how strong you want the box. What state do you live in?

Out of everything listed I would advise the HiFi subs.
The Kenwood subs like their speakers suck. I wouldnt sped $79 for kenwood anything- maybe a head unit. Forget the rest- all junk.
It will utilize the power you have well and it will do it cheaply.
I can match $35 a sub. That pretty low dollar though- only a few bucks over wholesale. Only reason I can do this is because I have another order to do... So if you want them, we need to talk then.

Ryan i also have another question. are the hifi subs good? will they hit respectivlely? are they better in a ported or sealed box ,would the box i posted before work or should i have somebody build me one?

heres another option

With the HiFi subs you need 1.75 cubes per sub, tuned to 40 Hz. Or you can go the simple route and the one I would advise for a newbie, and run a sealed box. When you learn and know enough about Car Audio then make the switch to ported.
I think this will be your best bet.
Depending on your location I could build a box for the subs and ship the box with the subs installed.

save money, get better equip. You have no idea how many times i've upgraded my stuff, because i'm able to save more and redo it.
..if i did it right... i would have saved about $1k in the long run. (which could have gone to totally sound dampen my car with GOOD stuff)

The big thing here is your amp... 500 WRMS x 1 @ 1 Ohm is hard to find subs that will work.

05-25-2010, 01:28 AM
Wouldn't two 2ohm speakers wired in parallel give the requested 1ohm effective? So then you would be looking for 250 WRMS speakers?
just thinkin out loud...

Sure, but how many 2 Ohm subs are there?
Its even hard to find many decent DVC 4 Ohm subs in his power range.

okay ryan ive found out the cubes for 2 memphis subs the cubes is 3.70 is there even a box that will fit the trunk of an alero with 3.70 cubes?
Ryan from Ohio

Ive had more than that in the Alero.
You will just have to measure well to make sure the specific box you are going to buy will fit.

my box is 3.9 cubes for a single 12 and a stupid huge port. that brings it close to 5 cubes. fits in the trunk quite nicely

3.7 would be so easy to fit, like I said my box is 34x16.5x26, that fills 8.6 cubes of trunk. Thats 3.7 for a sealed box, correct?
