I found a lightweight crank on RSM racing for the 3400, I already run a oversized alt pullie and lighten waterpump pullie.

The question is will this help or hurt me performance wise?

Well, from what I've been taught, a lightweight crank is just that.....a lighter weight crank. People's 1st train of thought is that there's a lesser amount of rotational weight providing quicker throttle responce ( quicker revs ). This is not the case. Lower rotational wieght comes with lighter rods and pistons. The crank is supported in all directions by the bearings, and if properly balanced, will rev just as fast as the lightweight crank. The lighter crank just shaves X amout of lbs off the motor.

*Keep in mind: I'm no Fred Hahn, and I don't mean to lead-on that I'm some master builder, but that just what I've been taught.

yea, i mean how much lighter can it be and how much difference can it actually make, now an over or undersized pully makes a difference obviously........but i doubt your going to see much a difference, probably not worth the money......

our cranks are plenty strong, and even being a split throw design, they are strong enuff to boost well past the rod strength.....in my opinion i would spend the money on rods, pistons and valvesprings(valve float is around 4900 rpm already)

as youngblood said it just shaves the weight wich to me isnt worth it price wise....... you wont notice a difference in just swapping cranks

Yeah that is what I thought, at first I thought it would be cool be then I started to think of why I didn't get the crank pullie in the first place.

Can use $150 for something else

yea you can put that in a piggy bank for a s/c or t/c........

jeez..i shoulda payed more attention  as soon as you said the 150 bux i thoughthuh??...no way a crank is that cheap..lol

mfuller, you said in your review: "So far, it seems worth the $140US it costs for the pulley and a new belt, but we'll see if the times at the track detect any difference."

Have you been to your track since?

Nope, haven't made it to the track yet. So take everything I say with a grain of salt. B)

Well, I gotta ask......can you FEEL a difference? A cai kit or exhaust can make you feel things you didn't actually feel based on the excitment from the sound, but I gotta think an in-audible mod would be different. ( I dunno, can you actually FEEL 5-8 crank HP? ) I'm just guessing on the HP amount, but still, you catch my drift.....My main question being: Can you feel a difference, even if it's just in a narrow RPM range?

As I said in my review (the link is a few posts up), the car seems to have a smidge more pull up top, but it's not anything huge. Of course, I haven't calibrated my arse dyno in a while..... B)

Well, my friend has the 2.4L engine, and pulled a 0.36s 1/4 mile gain from putting in
the lightened UNDERDRIVE crank pulley. And he has no crazy mods on his car.

With an Underdrive, your crank doesn't have as much load driving the accessories and
is definitely a heck lighter than the cast iron original.

I just got the RSM one on my 2.4L, and will be posting a review, once I hit the track up!

LMAO!!!...arse dyno calibrations
thanx for the feedback matt...lemme know when you get to the track to see a difference.....on a side not we talked about our valve float issues...what rpm range was that again??....do you think the pulley has any effect on this since it seems a bit louder in the upper rpm band??
