Hello everyone the name is Matt I just joined this forum about a day ago and the real reason was cause the L61 section caught my attendtion, I looked over the forum and this thread caught my eye = N-body ecotec motor Mounts (http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29115)
well im on Ecotecforum.com and one of the vendors over there is TTR you can check out the site @ TTR (www.turbotechracing.com)
Well I read over and I seen that the upper mount on our cars and tranny mounts have not been made into a light-weight/aftermarket one which there should be a company willing to do one well I talked with Aaron from TTR and he said if we could get aleast 5 ppl to pre pay for a mount he could make us one, but first im gonna send him the mounts so we can get the price that needs to be paid but i need to know how many ppl would be interested in this plus the more we have the less we pay
here is a pic of our motor/tranny mounts
http://www.trademotion.com/schematics/C/CP97222.gif
Im looking to see if number 1 and number 5 can be made to seeing how they are the main mounts
SO WHO IS DOWN TO GET ONE OR AT LEAST HELP OUT IN GETTING ONE???

If it wasn't TTR or anyother reputable company I wouldn't be down for it, I've seen alot of group buys go sour.

(these are just numbers I am throwing out there) my theory is if a guy only has $1000 to throw at a car right away, I would spend it on boost over motor mounts in a hearbeat...
but yest I change out a lot of parts that is probably not necessary. I think it would be safe to say that as far as parts and overkill:lol: I have the most complete 3400 build going in an alero or grand am currently....

I think one of the biggest problems we've had in the past with the idea is that there isn't really much of a market for N-body motor/trans mounts it's just a few of us together wanting them biggest reason being the N-body scene is no where near as popular as the J-body and Delta scene so these companies only make a small fraction of money off of us.

but i do so what agree on the comment you first made about the 1,000 but at the same time the guy that drop that 1,000 on a set up is the one that ends up having problems and is sometime no happy cause he did not wait :)
but you know where im coming from and truth to be told i wanna be just like you but instead its a build L61 malibu :)
ALSO JUST CAME FROM THE JUNK YARD AND GOT THE UPPER MOUNT GOING TO BE SENDING IT TTR AS SOON AS I GET HIS ADDRESS SO FAR THE LIST IS STILL UP TO 4 PPL WE NEED AT LEAST 5 AND I KNOW THERE ARE MORE MEMBER OUT THERE LOOKING INTO GETTING ONE OF THESE MOUNTS

yes but the way you need to look at it, is this forum nor will other exist if ppl were not set on customizing or modifiing N-body regaurdless of engine size cause you know what it not just the motor mount it lots of other things too and its about time ppl start making things we can use on our cars and not just making the same old thing for every other car (like hondas - not hating on hondas i own 3 del sol)

Ok the only thing for the AUTO tranny the number 5 is not the same as the MANUAL one... so Im only interested on the upper one. I wouldnt see why it would be an issue to find atleast 5 ppl interested on the #5 mount, since autos are more popular and also if im not mistaking, the 2.4 and prolly the 3.4 has the same tranny side mount.
whitemexican
04-27-2010, 06:25 PM
yeah on the tranny mount most of the auto use the same mount I saw that today when i was at the junk yard i was seaching thought number of n-body and it was all the same even throught the 3100 3400 2.2 and 2.4 but for now it looks like its only gonna be the upper mount in the works

sorry for the double post, but couldn't you just drill the hole out bigger yourself. i also have a machine shop next door (machining and welding) they could probably do it for me too correct?

Yes... I ended up drilling them before with the Prothane mounts I bought from them. I figured if they can just change the sleeve bore to the correct one they can sell it under N-bodies and cover a slightly bigger market, only thing I dont remember the size at the moment. I dont recommend the Prothane ones tho they cracked before I got a chance to use it on the track, they might work for regular driving but not for lil abuse... http://www.turbotechracing.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1274&idcategory=507
This the one Im getting:

there are choices you guys will have as far a metal color and bushing color
I chosed polished with red bushing wanted blue but he would have to wait about 2 weeks before he can get the blue bushing
now as far as testing im looking at:
-Fitment & mounting (cause this is gonna be the first one made)
-how much smooth running its
-how much it reduces wheel hop
-how much vibrations it absorbs
-plus pics of - mount, installing, on vehicle

We ship USPS priority mail (postal mail) to keep duties taxes low/sometimes none. It will be $35 or $45 depending on your location. Much better than UPS/Fed EX going to Canada, as they charge so much to you for duties/taxes.

Cavalier ones fit perfect for the bushing. I had the prothane ones that i bought from you guys year ago, but the rear one cracked too easy with the abuse. Only thing it needs a slightly bigger bore on the sleeves, it catches right on the threads. But I forgot the measurement. I can drill them (pain in the ass), unless you guys can make em and sell for the application

ITS DONE AND I MUST SAY IM F*&%ING HAPPY WITH THE WAY IT CAME OUT
I wrote a how-to and will post it tonight once i get off of work
And once again thanks TTR and Aaron for making this amazing product
THE REVIEW
Product - Amazing
Installment - Semi-easy (will require two ppl to help align the motor correctly)
Intallment Time - 1 hr or less
Motor - Barely any movement (other than the normal vibs, also motor will lift about half a inch)
Test Drive - also no vibrantion felt, also no wheel hop and thats what really suprised me (*note - I have Kyb strut mounts, GR2 struts w AG Springs, Vibrant Strut bar, Ploy Stab link bars, and Ploy control arm bushing & A frame ploy bushing*) Also car shifted alot better and drove alot smoother, at high speed shakes and vibrantions basically disappered.
Overall - One amazing product that is doing a fantastic job plus one happy a** mexican with a malibu :)
Ok guys im waiting for Aaron to e-mail me back (about posting the paypal link) and i will post the install tonight, cant wait till you guy get yours and you have them installed too :)

Just a note, this mount does not raise your motor any. It is the same height before and after the install of this product. Why it may appear higher? When you remove the stock mount, the engine slighly "falls", and when you install the new one, it appears to bring it up. However both mounts have the exact same install height. :)
Glad to see wheel hop is gone!

2010 Turbo Tech Racing N-Body Motor Mount How-To
*Special thanks to Aaron from TTR for the mount*
Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Classic
Tools you will need:
-A friend to help (will explain more in the install process)
-3/8 Ratchet
-3/8 Extension (One long one or two short ones)
-8mm wrench
-18mm socket
-15mm socket
-Jack (not in picture) **Will be used to lift motor**
-Piece of wood (incase your jack doesn’t go high enough)
-Car Ramps (not in picture....and if you don’t have car ramps you will need to jack up the front of your car with another jack)
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMOUNT.jpg
Installment Time: 1 hour or so (depends on how long it takes you to align the motor)
Installment:
1. Drive vehicle up on ramps or raise front of vehicle
2. Disconnect Negative battery terminal (8mm wench)
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-3.jpg
3. Locate the cruise control unit and disconnect the plug to the unit, now remove the cruise control unit by lifting up on the black clip at the top passenger side and pull the cruise control unit out and rest it on the valve cover out of the way, now push the black metal clip down to remove it so you have room to work on the mount.
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-1.jpg
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-21.jpg
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-6.jpg
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-7.jpg
4. Now go under the vehicle and place the jack under the transmission to support the motor and transmission
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-2.jpg
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-14.jpg
5. Grab your Ratchet, 3/8 extension, and 15mm socket and loosen up and remove the two nuts that are holding the motor mount to the body
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-5.jpg
6. Switch the socket so that you now have the 18mm socket w/ your ratchet and 3/8 extension and loosen up the bolts that hold the mount to the motor and remove the bolts
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-8.jpg
7. Pull the old motor mount out and replace with the new motor mount
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-9.jpg
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g100/WhiteMexican_HTR/InstallmentPics2010TTRL61MOTORMO-10.jpg
8. Now screw down the two nuts that hold the motor mount to the body of the car
9. Now look at the bolt hole closest to the front of car and see if they line up with the motor hole. If not raise the jack that is holding the transmission so that the hole lines up and place the bolt in the hole, now tighten the bolt down and the mount and motor should align to where you can continue screwing the bolt in, now do not screw the bolt all the way down cause you will need to place the other bolt in before you can tight it up all the way,
10. Ok this is a check point right now ---- you should have the two nuts that go to the body tighten all the way down and the bolt closest to the front of the car about 80% all the way in, now look into the other bolt hole and see if the holes line up if not you will need your friend to slowly lower the jack as you watch to see if the hole lines up if its going the opposite way tell your friend to slowly raise the jack as you watch the hole (This process will take most of the time and be patient with this you do not want to strip your bolt or your block and the bolt that is in about 80% will be perfectly fine its just getting the other bolt lined up straight after you line the bolt up tighten the bolt down till it gets tight (about 25% in)(first hand tighten it then about 3-5 turns from ratchet) now you will have to tighten up the other bolt (the 80% one) all the way down and you will see the mount line up, now began tighten up the last bolt, you will get about 50% (4-5 turns from ratchet) in and the bolt will get tight like it doesn't want to go in anymore, but what you have to do is slowly raise the jack and you will then be able to tighten the bolt down about 75% (4-5 turns from ratchet) till it gets tight again now lower the jack slowly and tight the bolt till about 90% (5-7 turns from ratchet), now remove the jack from under the transmission and tighten up the bolt the rest of the way.
11. Now go over both bolts and make sure they are tighten all the way down you should be able to tighten up the one closest to the front a little and also go over the two nuts that mount the mount to the body (Torque specs: Two grunts and a fart)

12. Now replace the black metal clip and place the cruise control unit in the black clip and secure the black clip by latching it to the top, also reconnect the plug to the cruise control unit

Wow... We got 5 orders late in the day of 6-18-10 Friday. We clearly stated it would take 3 weeks to ship from this date. 3 weeks is tomorrow/Friday, in which they will be shipping Friday/Monday, so worse case we were only 1 day off... or right on time. Depends if we can get them all assembled.

Nope, Just the Ecotec as far as I know. The Wot-Tech one will fit your 2.4.

Im sure Cliff got confused cause it doesnt really apply to his car. Number 5 is a tranny mount for AUTO trannies only, and yeah all three engines has it. Im surprice more ppl wasnt insterested on that one, since its a broad market selection not just ECOTEC.
On another note who else has install their mount, I did and have slight problem with the bolt hitting the chassis, so you can hear all the engine noise transfer thru it.

Well anyone know if we can try for it again?

It was more like I skimmed over the "#5" part. I think my #5 mount is done for (which looks more like the stock 2.4/3400 motor mount) but the dealer says nothing is wrong and won't cover it under warranty. After a few more times they might though.
Won't know anything about how this fits for a few months. Don't have the Alero here right now. But you can expect more vibration in general just because it's significantly more solid than the craptastic factory mount.
Vic28
07-27-2010, 06:47 AM
I dont my mind vibration, but when the bolt is touching you get the whole rattle. It kinda simple, im gonna try to cut it a lil, just wondering if anyone else on the same boat.

i can e-mail TTR and see if they want to put one in the works, but we will have to see who would be in for one of those mounts, cause i am still wanting to get one made, but i will find out and hopefully we can get alot more ppl in on the transmission mount
which if im not mistake will fit the auto trans from the grand am, alero, malibu or any engine size also it might fit the impalas but i have to check cause i know some have the same series transmission

Vic28
07-31-2010, 10:06 PM
It feals more firm, I havent try launching hard cause my tranny its acting up, but second gear those stay spinning instead of kinda buggin like before. Im having issue where the bolt its touching the chassi and its rattling, yours dont do that?? One single mount wont take all the wheel hop. Also wheel hop comes from the bushings on the control arm, kuz they kinda soft and old.

That must be from pressing in the bushings. It will cause no side effects (in performance or durability) it is strickly a visual thing.
If your bolt is slightly long (that has then nut on it) you can grind/sand it down a bit, to allow for extra clearance.
We have more available, anyone who would like one, please PM me ASAP.

It is poly, so a sharpe knife will shape it anyway you would like ;)

Its the bushing insert that's the wrong size. If you want I can send dimensions and such to make them fit correctly

Post the required diameter, and width of the bushing.
Along with the "bore" bolt diameter hole size needed. We will evaluate.

Where can I the transmission mounts? Performance or upgraded stock mounts.

Got the motor mount installed. I love it, it's one of the best upgrades I have made. Well it's only the second upgrade, first was a drop in K&N air filter. My stock mount was trash. It was sagging about 1". It only took about 15 min to install the new one.
I can't seam to find any performance transmission mounts so I am going to fill the mounts with polyurethane window sealant I picked up from Lowes for about $5.

I couldn't sell it so I figure I'll keep it around, it's not a priority but I couldn't say no to the Price TTR had on the mount, Props to them for great service.
