Okay, so as many of you already know. I dropped a new engine in the alero and it locked. How do I overcome this problem? My mechanic said that it has to have a new crank, I search for crank and it came up nothing. Maybe it is not the crank and something else, I wanna know what it is. I DO NOT have the money to drop in another engine. How hard would it be to get this one to work again and how much do you think it would cost?
If it cost too much to fix then I will be parting out the ho and looking for a new ride. I just want my ho back on the road!

You need to find out what the real problem is.... it "locked" that's descriptive.
It just does not move whatsoever? Zero rotation of the crankshaft?

Ion,
I guess there is no turn of the crankshaft. I tried turning the crank pulley( I think thats what it is) by hand with a breaker bar and a 1 1/16th" socket and it only felt like the bolt was tightening and loosening but the motor was not turning by hand. This is what lead the mechanic to believe that the motor was locked.

first thing first. pull the starter and then try to turn motor over by hand. if starter stuck engaged it can make it seem like motor locked up. Smurf i thought you had a warrenty on this motor? Also I thought you said it sounded like it was trying to fire but wouldn't? so with the info you have gave me over the past phone calls i would start with what i said.

Yeah mine turns by hand relatively easily... do what Oldsman said.

Smurf man this sucks!
Pull that starter off and see if it moves.
There is no real explanation as to why it would just lock up for no reason. Not like the bearings froze up without making noise first... So it would stand to reason something else may have happened.
If that motor did truly lock up on you then yes probably new car time.
If you want another Alero I will make you a steal on mine!
