pulled tranny plug help.

i am changing my tranny fluid out today just a drain and fill but when i pulled the plug i only got a quart to come out where are the other nine quarts of tranny fluid????????? do i need to start the car or something? i dont understand how only one quart comes out i know my tranny is full to the proper level.

you pull the plug out once the fluid is at normal temp ... this allows you to "set" the amount of tranny fluid that should be in your trans normally. now as for doing a tranny fluid change you will have to drop the pan ... only loosen a couple bolts at a time on one side of the pan so the fluid will run over on that side and make sure you have a drum that will hold roughly 7 quarts available ... although if you read the owners manual it will tell you unless you drive your car in specific conditions that you do not need to change the trans fluid.

really so if I losten 3 or 4 bolts on the pan fluid will come out?

You loosen all the bolts, and remove them from just one side so you can basically tip the pan but let one side's bolts still hold it. That's the least messy way.

Get a big trashcan lid and cut a hole in the middle and use it as a gigantic funnel, that's my preferred mess-avoidance tool .

a standard oil pan wont catch it from one side draining?

it should i never had a problem doing it with my TH400 in my truck and i had dropped that pan 3 times in a week changing the filter cause it hadn't been changed in over 30 years

standard pan caught it fine after the second bolt cam out starting dripping pretty good 3rd bolt pouring out. pretty easy now i just gotta find a store that has some lubered

am i seeing this right they built in a drain bolt so we can drain out atf easy and mess free?

The least messiest way is to use a siphon to siphon as much as you can out from the top before you take off the pan. Did that on my Escort once and when I took the pan off, there was almost none left and it wasn't messy at all when I took off the pan (very nice!).

Yeah but you'll have to be able to weld. It is worth it though IMHO

I thank the key words are " include the drain plug where applicable". idk.....
