Hey guys. Turning our v6 into a stick shift........any research done? Maybe a different tranny that could use an adaptor plate, or something, there's got to be a way to do it.

As far as this board goes, Springs (http://invision.aleromod.com/index.php?act=Msg&CODE=4&MID=469) is the only person working on a manual conversion. Ask him about it.

transmission I'm using is from a 94 cavalier Z24
interior pieces are from a 2000+ 4 cylinder 5 speed alero
halft shafts and mounts will be custom
flywheel is also from the 94 cavi. I upgraded to a fidanza aluminum flywheel though.
lack of funds for now has the project on hold.
my car has $5,000 in hail damage. my insurence is covering it and if there is anything left its either going towards this project or returning boost to my alero

does that line up to our motors or are you having to use an adaptor plate?
estimated cost ?

Early '90's Baretta GTZ 5 speed will also bolt right up, if I'm not mistaken, but I've heard that tranny is crap.

gtz is the quad 4. Different bell housing thant our engine (same as the 2.4L)
gt will but it doesn't have the internal slave. their trans is pretty stout. only major problem is the throwout bearing likes to get off of its fork. (thats why I chose the internal slave as well)
any 2.8L/3.1L equiped gm will work. the 2.8/3.1 is what our engine is based off of.
the late 93 and all 94 models have the internal slave like the alero does so a custom clutch line should not be needed.
dunno on estimated cost
since I'm doing 95% of the labor myself thats saving me a huge chunk. but I'm also going overkill on many components.
I'd say ROUGHLY 1500-2500 in parts depending on what all you want

i went to beretta fest last year and a guy had a 3400 in his car with the same tranny from the quad 4. he said it bolted up to the 3400. so now he has a 3400 5-speed in his beretta GTZ. I can get more info if you would like!

The guy doesnt know what he's talking about. its the same tranny yes, getreg 282. but the bellhousing is different
I have both a quad 4 282 and a v6 282 here
they look identical except for the bellhousing. all internals out of the transmissions are interchangeable. but a V6 wil NOT bolt to the Quad 4 manual.
I know several beretta owners locally and much about the cars.
it could of been a gt but not a gtz.
gtz was quad 4 HO except for a very rare few that were 3100 autos

I emailed Cliff cause I seen the 3400SFI swapped into his beretta, here is what he emailed me back
the swap was a 3400 into a beretta, and not a 5-speed into a 3400 Alero? Although swapping a 5-speed into a V6
alero would not be the easiest thing, it wouldn't be extremely
difficult. However it would probably require a little welding and a
transmission from a 00-02 J-Body with the 2200 4-cyl..

the trans from the 2200 would be too weak to handle the 3400 with a decent amount of power.

Not to mention you would be reving the crapp out of that v-6 on the highway, and your gas millage would go right down the crapper. That is because you would have the final drive for a 4 banger, and 4 bangers like to rev higher than v-6 when cruising.

I was going to do a swap this year but I ran out of time
I know I'm in the wrong forum for this, but I'm actually attempting the same thing in a 2400, and was wondering if any of your could warn me about any problem I might run into? Saving myself $$$ because I avoided doing something stupid would help immensely. thx

what about the new Pontiac G6..doesn't it have like a 3500 w/ a 6speed Manual tranny?..I've heard rumors that the tranny from the G6 will bolt right up to the 3400..but IDK. Any input from anyone?

may 2005 for the GTP 3.9. The 3900 is still an evolutionary development of the 3400 so hopefully it will bolt right on though I have no Idea if the changed the bell housing of the 3900 or not. Also the 6 speed will be able to handle at least 255 ftlbs of touque so thats a plus as well.

Hey springs, how much of a pain in the ass is it to install the clutch pedal assembly in a car that wasnt equipped with one?
