This is the first time ive started the alero in about a month and a half or 2 and i tried to start up and it like backfires and shuts off.

Anyone know whats wrong?

(sidenote, the gas in it has been the same tank for the past 6 months...donno if that matters)

did you use a fuel stabilizer for sitting that long?

yea you could have water buildup in your gastank from letting it sit that long w/o stabilizer which would cause the cylinders to not have proper pressure

would that cause it to start up and die like its doing?

yes if the cylinder(s) cant make pressure your car wont start or stay running long

can't make pressure? wtf are you talking about?

mine did this, but i had a completely different reason... are you sure no one messed with the car while it was sitting? sounds like a vacuum leak to me..

month or two isnt that long. I have let a few of my cars sit for a year plus and it will start no problem.

sorry, miss use of my words, i meant compression. if there is enough water in your gas tank the fuel pump will be pumping water to your injectors and when the cylinders try to compress water and it will not start/run because physics explains you cannot compress water

you can hear it popping when i try to turn it over and then it just dies, there is only like 2 gallons of gas even left in the tank right now

top off with 5 gallons of fresh gas first. Should help, and 7 gallons is still pretty light if for some bad reason you have to drop the tank...

okay ill try it tonight, hope i dont have to drop it.. =/

also, should i try to turn it over a few times to get the bad fuel out of the injectors and the new fuel into them?

just have a friend hold the valve, and prime it

Since the fuel system will not FILL the cylinder with water, but only pot as much water as it would fuel, the cylinders not compressing is not the problems, they will compress just fine, as it will be the AIR that will get compressed. However, since water tends not to be flammable, having the cylinder fire WILL be a problem.

So, just in case i'm just gonna throw this out. Is your car running at all, or just turning and popping. My car had the passlock go nuts on it and did this, but didn't really pop at all. When you turn on the key, watch the gauges. If the security light is flashing the whole time, do the passlock search on the site. In case this hasn't been checked.
