yup.....the Alero is finally dead...went to start it today, and it pucks and farts like it want's to... but wont, took the surge tank cover off, and a billow of steam and pressure came out, asked my mom to crank it... and a shitload of bubbles and foam came out of the tank..so....it's finally done.....:cry:

compression test will be done later today, to confirm this

nope. when i replaced my lower intake with a ported one from WOT_TECH i went ahead and upgraded, but the original gasket was still holding strong. i have replaced 2 waterpumps, but thats a 20 min job. no major issues with my 3400 and i run it hard, real hard, but i maintain it well, i treat my car better than my wife.

its possible you have a head gasket seaping when cold and seals when its warming up. it would possibly explain the wet plugs and sputtering til warming up. we see it with diesel engines.

new info, when the 3400 won't start, even cold, i crank, and check the pressure in the hoses, and they are firm, like it was hot.. i release pressure, and they firm up again, but i'm not losing coolant, and no white smoke....wtf is going on?

i'll report back then, when everything has been installed, replacing, Fuel rail, injectors, LIMG, HG's, Thermo, Coolant, Replacing plugs with iridium..., new water pump.., running radflush through the system to fix everything.. should be good after this

haha, alright guys....so, just went out and tried it again.. won't even fire, so, engine comes out tomorrow, and gets disassembled, magnafluxed, dipped, and paint, i gotta order parts, and she'll be back on the road by May.. looking for 5psi low boost until trans swap.

i will start a rolling thread, once i start dissembling it, and will continue to update the new thread as i upgrade and fix everything.... and i mean EVERYTHING

I can't understand what I'm doing wrong, I've been trying to blow up my 3400 for four years and it just keeps running. Now the tranny won't shift anymore if you give it too much gas, so I think I'm headed in the right direction, but it still is able to drive around and get the groceries. Is there a trick to getting it to total fail mode? I'd like it to fail once and for all so I can just go into debt and get a bimmer and achieve some status, but it seems not to be in the cards. Some people have all the luck. :(

the car REALLY has been a LOT of fun... i like the repairs.. i like how much fun it is, how it sticks to the road.. i was ever nice to it either... i always used to accelerate hard.. brake hard, take corners fast.. i mean, i never drove it really all nice like..

its weird that you guys have had so much problems with the 3400 yet mine has been bullet proof. Nate, another option if you want an easier swap than an LD9, but are sick of the 3400, go 3500. Its a little more work than just another 3400, but you'll have a bit more power under the hood, and reliability at the same time.

well......let me say i don't normal look in this section being i don't work on the 3400 that often but damn people i understand Nate can be annoying but do all of you have to be such dinks.

Nate you have 2 choices.......junk the car or get a new motor. I would recommend get a good low mileage 3400. 3400 do have issues but all motors do. So the 3400 isn't a POS the original LIMG are but not the motor.
