if i did throw a turbo in and had the tuning program, how would shifting work? would i only be able to go like 110 on the stock trans or could i change it to be able to go up to like 130 or 140? this is totally hypothetical. its just a thought that crossed my mind.

I would assume points would stay the same unless you adjusted them by increasing line pressure manualy or through tuning.

if i did it through tuning could i stretch them out that much?

i think you can go 140 on the stock trans anyway.... btw.... speed is not EVERYTHING

well, at the electronically limited 108 mph, the car is in 3rd gear so you still have a whole other gear to use. just throwing alot of power and speed down without suspension upgrades and tire upgrades would make the car a suicidal death trap. Supposibly the car is not limited by the gears, but by air drag in the 130's area. Where do you plan to drive at speeds this fast anyway?

If you remove the limiter in the PCM, the tranny will push the car to 140MPH and beyond (provided you have the horsepower). But please don't try on public roads.

According to the math, the Alero's top speed would be 145 MPH at 6000 RPM's, the Grand Am would be 134 at the same RPM

whoa chill out guys ahhaha im not going to go that fast. i was just wondering if it was possible.

hahaha thanks for the info :)

yeah, it's possible... should you? not on public roads

no, i wouldnt on public roads. if i took it to the track maybe. like a race track, not drag strip

"air-drag limited" is a joke

When my car dyno'd after my turbo install. My reflashed ecu had the speed limited (governor) moved higher. They dyno shop went past 140. I think it was 145. It could of went more like 5 more mph but we cut it off there.

Using a tuner

tuner or diconnect your speed sensor (forget the actual name) but if you disconnect the sensor you lose your speedo also. btw, whenever you mention stuff like this, make sure you throw in of course never on a pulic road :p

You can even rig a toggle switch on the one wire that comes from the sensor on the tranny but never on a public road.

Top speed is rev limited on the 4T40E to somewhere around 187ish MPH.

You clearly don't know too much about how things work otherwise your first post wouldn't say what it does. So don't worry about these things until you need to. There is no reason to go that fast. Imagine hitting a pothole, or otherwise having a blowout. Or the axle's blowing apart. The speed limiter is there for a reason. Once you go beyond, you may go beyond what each rotating part on the vehicle is designed to safely handle.

first off i want to say that i would never put it up to 140+ because its to dangerous. and i wouldnt do it on public roads. the only thing i would turn up the top speed for is if i were to race on a closed track

why do aleros comeout out 140mph speedos? ive always wondered since mine maxes out at 105. Is it just for looks?

Because when you top it out at 160+, it's more fun to have someone in a Z06 pace you so you know how fast you're going.:wtf2:

However, that's not the stock transmission. Mine's a 4t65HD with 2.93 FDR

Oh yeah, and I don't know what all that crazy crap is previously about disconnecting speed sensors etc. May not be that way on the 4-bangers, but I know in the V6 PCM, speed sensor input is required to establish shift points, cross-references to various other things, like TCC lockup, and would not be advisable to disconnect it or cut it off.
