Upgrading rear brakes

Hi!

It's time for new rotors and pads because of wear. I have been annoyed at the smallness of the stock rear rotors. So I was thinking I would increase the size somehow.

The question is would front Alero calipers fit in the rear? If not what to do?

rear brakes are sufficient... they work fine the way they are, no upgrades that i know of, except D&S and better pads

rear brakes only do 10% of the braking.. your best bet would be to jus replace the pads and jus grind the rotors(take to local brake shop).. if you really wanted to upgrade brakes i suggest doing the front because they do most of the braking anyways..

incorrect.... rear brakes do 35 - 40% of the braking....they ARE valuable

if that's entirely true... then why does my alero have 165k on it and it's never needed rear pads.

aren't the grand prix rear brakes considered an upgrade? dont they bolt on and are a little bigger

Humm I changed my rear rotors and pads on the Alero about 2 years ago and they are at 50%... And thats only on about 20k miles

the rear shoes do 20%, and a dual disc setup (four wheel disc) the load is almost 50 - 50

speaking of which... i can drive easily with my ebrake pulled(doesn't slow me down much at all)... should probably get around to adjusting my shoes, or replacing the shoes/drums...

Actually, a Corvette setup can prove to be a little difficult if you want to retain your parking brake. However, the Grand Prix GXP rears are the same size and bolt right on (in theory, nobody has actually done it yet as far as I know).

I don't brake that much so the reason is purely esthetical! I bought some wheels that made the rear brakes really ugly (http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1557/dscn0345.jpg).

As I live in Sweden its going to cost a lot to import whatever brake system I chose so it must fit on a -99. So unless anyone has changed the calipers/rotor size on the rear brakes and knows for sure, I'm just gonna buy stock rotors/pads. The car isn't getting any newer anyway!

nice alero. The rear brakes do look tiny with thoes wheels, and I agree larger rear brakes would be a welcome change.

Wouldnt it be possable to use front rotors in place of the rear ones?
I would imagine you would eaither need to delet the parking brake or use a small caliper in place of the drum setup.

Wow I think you need to put the wrenches down.

I just bought the stock replacement style but slotted and x-drilled from Summit. $150 for everything, look and work great. Rear brake upgrade isn't neccessary. It's a waste of money

"Blue" has cross slotted and drilled rotors on all fours. I paid about the same a few years ago on Ebay lol.

I've decided to go stock on them brakes. Apparently the rear pads are metal on metal so I have to haul ars :>

Thinking of painting the calipers. Well, maybe not paint them but they look like crap, should I polish them somehow or paint them with some sort of silver color? Not keen on red or blue, don't want to draw attention to that area hehe
