55 watts
too high a current draw for the alero's harness, 55 watts for a long time is too much

not hardly. 55 is the stock voltage draw that should never have happened with a 55w bulb.

Dirt of corrosion causing resistance to build up on electrical connection. This causes a voltage drop over the electrical connection which dissipates in the form of heat. Too much heat will melt or burn the connector.
Understanding this might help:

im ordering my hid's next week so hopefully it doesnt get effed up any more till then. i know i need to replace the socket but do i really need to put a whole new lead on it or can i just put a new socket on?
u can put a new plug on the end of it you dont need to replace the entire line, but im sure thats going to be around $35 at the stealership better off putting it towards your HIDs
