Hey all,

I got a problem on my passenger side rotor. I started hearing a grinding when I would come to a stop and first take off. It would happen off and on so I wasn't sure what to make of it. I checked the rotor this weekend and there's a groove carved into it and the gringing is getting progressively worse.

I just had the rotors changed about a year ago. I realized they might be warped b/c braking in the highway cause a lot of vibration.

What could have caused the grinding on the rotor and the groove? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Sounds to me like your brake pads are completly gone. Your rubbing metal to metal. That's what is causing grooves in the rotors.

I just had the pads replaced with the rotors and the driver side is okay. I never heard squeeling either to warn me of low pads. Could the pad have come off or something gotten stuck in there?

Made the pads were no good. It sounds like the pads are shot

Yep, pads are definitly shot. Doesn't matter if you had them put on a year ago, it depends on many miles you have driven. Some pads are rated for higher mileage than others.

Our cars eat brake pads and rotors. I have an 03 and I see that I am going to have to replace my pads and rotors at least once a year. Maybe for more.

maybe something is wrong with that caliper since you said the one side is fine.

I took the car in. They said that the caliper on the right side was sticking and rubbint against the metal. That's probably what wore down the pads. They said that they have to change the caliper, pads, & rotors on both sides so the braking is even.

I have a couple of questions

1)Do they really need to change both sides?

2)Since it was their caliper that messed up the rotor (I took it to the same place who changed the brakes in the first place) shouldn't they give me something of on the cost? The calipers and pads have a lifetime warranty, but I'm still out $250 on the rotors.

thats right! who called it? who's da man? lmao

i wouldnt think they would HAVE to change both sides if the other side is still working fine. you have to realize that the one side will wear out before the side though so getting both replaced is probaby best. it will eventually have to get done or will taking your car to the shop twice as often as normal.

they would have to change both sides for safety reasons. The car would pull very hard to the side of the new brake. Just order some rotors online. That would save some money.
