Steel Wheels?

Get us the VIN, we can tell immediatly

(if it has a sunroof, and leather, instant GL2 or GLS)

and if it came with leather that would be a big indicator of a higher trim.

did they even make the GLS in a 2.4? My understanding that woudl be reserved for the 3.4, but I never paid much attention to the 2.2 or 2.4

Also, what year is it? GLS I think was only 3.4, but they also changed the trim levels over the years too. Need more info.

its a 2001 with cloth seats no sunroof and no steallies

based on that, I would think a GL1 or GL2, but again if you post the VIN, someone will be able to decypher for you. I would have said a GX but if you have no steallies and actual rims to my knowledge bumps it up a trim.

sounds like gl2. thats what mine is, and i have power windows, locks, and drivers seat. alloy wheels, cd player, spoiler, and the 2.4. also, disk brakes all around. i think there were different brake options for diferent trims. not positive tho.

GX and GL1 got rear drum

GL2 and GLS got 4 wheel disc

I thought someone said that the 03 and 04 were standard rear drums. Not sure if that can distinguish trim code....though i could be wrong.

my alero is a gx. it came with 15" alloy rims, and i have 4-wheel disc brakes. it's a 2.2 with 5-speed. power locks, manual windows.

Yep, that's right... Only 03 and 04 with the rear drums..

The trim level can be determined by the 5th digit of the VIN...

1G3N (K, L, F)

Power windows automatically makes it not a GX, and all GLS have the 3400.

Probably a GL1 if I had to venture a guess.

ok so I think we narrowed it down to GL1 or GL2

I guess the vin will be the give away

it dose not have power seats if that makes a difference and has four wheel disc brakes

That's wierd 'cause I have an '03 3.4 with 4 wheel disc brakes...does that make me a freak?

^^no they were an option, not standard like the prior years, theres another thread floating around recently talking about that

Just walk out and get the vin dude, lmao

and the fact that you have disc doesnt help me, I have a 99, but it came standard with disc, I got the top of the line with everything you could get on it in 99....GLS with sport suspension, sunroof, power all, 3400, leather. So I am no major help.

For me, 5th position in VIN is L (1G3NL...)-- is that a GL1 or GL2?

For comparison purposes, 2000 sedan, 2.4/auto, power windows, locks, driver's seat, cloth, alloy wheels, discs all around, no sunroof, no spoiler.

There is no designation between GL1/2/3/4 etc... There may be a RPO, but i doubt it.

Do you have 15 or 16" wheels?

15's. Posted a pic of the car in the "new member introductions" section if you want to see what style, but it's one of the common ones.

DansGen1Alero

well you can call it a day and just say GL
the 99's didn't have a 1, 2, 3... just GX, GL, GLS as far as I know.

I'm not sure on that one... I do know I have the sales brochures around here for most of the years..

Either way, GL1.

This may help, I am looking for the brocheres too, and when i get home if I can remember, I will pull the 99 and see if there is a breakdown of the GL

DansGen1Alero

ok, according to the 99 brochere, the alero came in a GX1 GX2, GL1, GL2, and GLS. The window sticker may be the only way of determining which GL it is. the following are looked at when you figure trim code (of course I may be missing something) Fog Lights, Leather, Rims 15 or 16in high polished or plain, sunroof, spoiler, cd player
