I just recieved my (used) Power Steering pump for the Alero. The pulley on it is chipped (on the edge) and I want to replace it because I'm afraid that the chip can be grabbing the serpentine belt and eventually will cause it to snap. My question is I only have to remove the long bolt that presses the pulley to the pump or is there any other hidden screws ? Also for the actualy replacement there are two plugs in the back of the pump.. one for the hose I guess, what's the other one for ? And I'm not talking about the plug for the power. Noob questions but I have never replaced a power steering pump yet.

You will need a special tool to remove the pulley from the hub. Ask your local auto parts store, they may have it available to rent. Ill look at my pump tomorrow to see the two plugs you refer to and get back to you.

one tool, screws into the driveshaft of the pump, and you twist it on, the little lip of the pulley, and then turn the nut on that to yank it off, then there is another thing, that screws on, and presses the pulley on the driveshaft

yep, get a tap and die set, retap the pump, and get a stronger bolt to match the threads you tapped to

If you stripped the threads when you were removing the pulley....

The threads in the pump shaft are to put the new pulley on...

Taking it off should be kinda like this..

I know thread Jesus!!

Do you need to remove the upper motor mount to replace the pulley? I did my CPS this weekend and noticed the pulley had a lot of stress cracks and such

yeah... you'll need to remove it... To be honest, it's better to remove the whole pump with it on....
