View Full Version : Top rpm 4000?

Some reason, poping my car into N, and flooring it, top rpm's I get is 4000, and my car seems to shift at 2500. This a big prob?

Just a rev limiter man...it won't be there when the vehicle is in drive

well.. first of all... you don't want to throw it into N and slam the pedal too often... your just abusing the engine prematurely. Computers are built to run 24/7 for years and years... cars are NOT built to do that.

i'm pretty sure we have a rev limiter, engine guys will elaborate.

I know on the grand prixs they have a wire near their e brake pedal that if you disconnect it, it will take away the rev limiter...I haven't checked if we have something there

there is absolutely no reason to do that.

Yeah I wouldn't do it...But a kid in my class wanted to see if he could brakestand with his 3.8...He's a laughing stock ha

lots of gm V6 cars have a neutral rev limiter. its there for a very good reason, engines can be hurt MUCH easier reving high in neutral that in drive. don't worry about it, in drive you should rev close to 6k if you want to.

I always though it was funnyhow the car stops you from doingnuetral drops. I have triedvery hard to with no luck. It revs you slam it into D or 321 and it will just bog for 2sec and then continue on it's way.

And before I get flammed: I do this on my parts cars. It's half the reason to buy parts cars is to have fun

Why in the hell are you free-revving your engine? The rev limiter is there for a reason. To keep your dumb ass from blowing up the engine by revving it high unloaded. There's a significantly increased risk of major engine damage when there's no load on the engine and you spin it up.

The car shifts where it's supposed to while driving depending on throttle position and vehicle speed. You lay the pedal down and it's going to shift at the redline, not 2500 all the time.

If you wanna rev your engine like that in neutral I suggest an exhaust system so you can hear it and you dont have to go all the way through your tach. I have flowmasters and my rev limiter is removed but i never goes past 4000 barely past 3500 sometimes. Like the others said they put it there to keep us from blowing them up.

So if you wanna rev, get you an exhaust and use that limiter it will make your shit pop LOL...but I still wouldn't do it all the damn time.
