Apollo CAI

I was wondering if anyone has ever used the K&N Apollo:

I'm planning to make a custom PVC tube to the filter and then run the extension down behind the fender. This way I can try it both as a CAI or WAI if I wanted to.

Also was thinking of placing the Temp sensor behind the grill... but I've heard people arguing against it so should I make a whole in my PVC and place it there instead?

Any input would be appreciated.

I hate to say it but the hose looks a little like most common universal air intake. Like dryer vent hose

The whole point of getting an aftermarket intake is to decrease restriction. You want the most open, high flowing filter you can get, and an intake tube with the least amount of bends and ridges as possible. So you use smooth aluminum tubing with a conical filter.

The whole point of getting an aftermarket intake is to decrease restriction. You want the most open, high flowing filter you can get, and an intake tube with the least amount of bends and ridges as possible. So you use smooth aluminum tubing with a conical filter.


Me thinks someone got approval to test the rice market . K&N is known a lot for Mustangs and Trucks. I guess they are gonna try the 1994 Hondas now:lol:

Buy it and do it, if the thing costs 50 cents.

You can get an intake off Ebay for probably $20.

Thanks for the replies; I trust you guys enough to not waste my money just yet....

But for one thing I don't think this setup would restrict the Airflow any more than a normal CAI. The filter surface area in the heat shielded box is the same as any open filter so the air volume through the filter is the same and the same tube restriction that's applied in a CAI after the filter is applied before the filter here...

A few advantages I thought of were:
-Smaller bend angles which restrict the airflow much less
-Ability to go from WAI to CAI in no time
-Better ram air effect with mounting the tube end facing forward.

I can see these problems with it:
-The tube collapsing or being bent at some point
-Not too sure if the material will be good for airflow

Does any of this make sense?

That looks like a tiny tube, too. Maybe 2"??

I'm pretty sure u want aluminum tubing that is almost exactly the same size as our TB.

I don't see dimensions for the actual filter element anywhere. You need that to compare to other filters as far as surface area. If you bypass the stock fenderwell parts (remove them) and direct the tubing into the fenderwell, it might not be that bad, for a stock engine setup. There will be no usable "ram air" effect in any case, just the benefits of cold air.

I don't think anyone on here besides me actually does any pressure drop (restriction) tests or does scans to measure Mass Air Flow change in these setups. It's not as much as you would think.

Reading a bit about the intakes here, it seems like the WAI is almost as good as the CAI so I will go with the Cosmo WAI for now and then try this thing later on.

just get a wai off ebay and put a decent filter on it. much cheaper than cosmo
