Opinions on a buy for a 3400 alero

Im looking at this gold 2001 alero it has some engine problems like a bad lifter but thats about it. The guy wants $1200 and i have a buddy who can do the repairs for cheap since he knows the engine pretty good already. Does it sound like a good buy on my part? I would be spending about $1500 total to fix it up and get it running.

Well, how many miles are on it, how does the body look, any rust?

If you already own an alero I would not pay $3000 after getting it running just to have a second one.

if you're spending 1,500 including purchase price, then you're not that bad off. Again depends on mileage and the rest of the car's condition.

The bod yis in GREAT shape my buddy said he would paint the car for me for free, and the ac and everything works really well. I dont have an alero right now i was looking at a 2000 alero but the guy backed out of the deal hence my username. The alero is for my wife so she can get around might throw some performance in it later on. NO rust what so ever really good looking car it has 109K miles

Oh and the trunk doesnt open with the button from inside and the "BRAKE" light is on thats about it.

This would come in handy since im in the process of turboing my 3400 grand am. Im on the list for marks group buy silvergagt2002 from gagt :)

about the trunk... there's a trunk lock on the inside of the trunk lid that disables that button, you may wanna check for that, because it sounds like it's just locked.

but it sounds like a GREAT deal to me. i would go for it!
