ok so here goes. i have a sunroof.. i love it. but......
1 you open it... opens fine
2 you close it immediately ....closes fine
3you open it, drive it, park close it ....it closes fine(usually)
4 you open it, park , turn off the car and go inside, come back out (anytime after about 20 minutes... moves a little and stops.
4.5 or just doesnt move at all..
5. here is whats weird!!! after it wont close it wont budge that whole day. you let it sit over night, fire up the car in the morning... closes fine...(exacty happened 3 times everytime same way.)
does ANYONE have ANY idea how this is like that? i would really love to use it but i fear it not closing :(

Sounds like your motor is old and worn out, just like what happens to power window motors. You might be able to assist it by hand as you're closing it, to keep it moving.

I don't have a sunroof but do they have a seperate relay? After you check what Cactus suggested look to see if it has a seperate relay or is on a relay that may be sticking...just a thought..unless its a switch problem.

If it does have a relay, I don't think it would differentiate between opening and closing directions, it would simply open or close a circuit when current is requested in either direction.

neither to both suggestions guys(checked that months ago :(
i mean when you let it sit and it studders to a stop you could attach a wench to it and all it would do is pull the car the thing wont budge.. but it ONLY does this if you let it sit open and the car is off.. if you just open iut for a ride and when you park and close it it goes smoothly like new....

Ok with that said then what else is there in one of those things. I mean it has to ride on a track right with rollers or sliders of some type..could it be those?
How about process of elimination:
You checked the motor?
Slides and or rails?
Wiring?
Switch?
Relays if any...fuses?
...What else would be included?

First, witht eh key on and engine, radio, a/c off, can you hear the motor trying to work, that little berrrrr like its gonna but wont. If not then the issue is the motor, dead spot, old solider joints, or bad connector at the switch or motor. If the motor is trying then see below.
Have you cleaned and re-greased the slides?
My prefrence and much easier to find, as well as water resistant,
Motorcycle Chain Lube.
I replaced the whole roof assy in a Subaru last month, turned out so much trash got in the slides, when the rails got hot sitting in the sun all day, plus some loose nuts, the rails would put the slides in a bind. Similar but not exactly your situation. Had to remove, clean, and replace the motor.

Mine acts weird sometimes too, even in the middle of summer. Probably doesn't help you much, but at least you're not alone. :)

Is there any way to remedy that? Besides replacing it, obviously.
My driver side window is a prime example of this. It stops working for weeks at a time, then it suddenly comes back and works just fine. It's currently in a non-functional stage and I'm considering just going out and replacing the motor.

do it..... taking the door panel off is simple. just make sure any screws/clips that may be holding it in certain spots (like behind the handle on the panel) are taken out before u pop the clips holding it on...then pop them and pull up, un plug everything move plastic moisture shield and there it is!!! the motor itself:eek::lol:

Sweet, thanks! :D
Another question though, how important is that plastic shield? I'm pretty sure it's a major cause for a lot of the "rattling" I hear when I get my music up to a certain volume (in the passenger door, at least).
