can my stock 3.4 take 14psi from a garrett gt 24. thanks. i got it for pretty much free n its goin on either way, i just really dont want to change out the springs. it came from a stock 3.1 grand prix engine that ran 14psi all day long. im trying to sell the car (to buy an evo 8) n dont want to blow it up.

Yes the LA1 could take 14psi.........the question is for how long? Do you have fuel upgrades, what are you going to tune with?

new fuel pump, think its the same size tho. were putting in an external 2 bar map sensor or something and then a buddie who owns a performance shop is tuning it. somethin expensive, but no dyno. honestly not to sure..

Let me just politely say, do a little research, get your facts straight and then come back and ask the question again, and be ready to answer questions.....

the place were getting it tuned at uses a credit system and is charging like 150$ (discounted) to tune it. no idea if that helps..

Sounds like your getting a deal. So you saved money. Now utilize those funds towards properly building the engine to safely accept the boost levels with out any recourse.
I suggest you find a spare motor and go from there. Thus allows you to drive your Alero in the period of rebuilding the engine. Plus you have a spare engine for the likely hood that something goes wrong.

You PM'd me this:
so i have a garrett gt24 i think? it has standard t3/t4 turbo flange and it come from a 3.1 grand prix engine who was running it at 14psi all day everyday w no problem. basically were putting it on my car for a fun lil project tilll i have money for an evo. i want to sell the car and was wondering if u knew if id be safe running the turbo at 14psi on my stock 3.4 or if i should get a diffrent spring and lower the psi. thanks
p.s. u know how much hp you got from adding your turbo??
There's no such thing as a Garrett GT24. The flange is either a T3 or T4 style, not both. The turbo can be both, usually a T3 turbine with a T4 compressor. GT series turbochargers are ball bearing, and are decently expensive. You must've gotten a small journal bearing turbo probably off a stock 80s vehicle like mine is. Mine's off a 1983-1985 Volvo 740T.
I find it funny how simple you think installing this will be on your 3400. :p Newbies.. hehe.
Definitely shouldn't be running that much boost even from a small turbocharger on a stock engine unless you have a very very nice tune, and low mileage. The 3400's rods are forged stock, but other things can break with 100+ HP over stock design.

Sell it and get your Evo... you aren't going to be putting a turbo setup on with no more costs than the $250 junkyard setup for a 3.1L engine.
