Well, haven't been on here in a while...but alas as of 3 weeks ago the Alero is no more. She was written off in a rear end collision, although there is no damage to the exterior.

This is what happens when you use your Alero to carry wood and someone rear ends you. I had it flagged as per law, but the individual was a bit "sleepy" and rammed the wood through my dash and front windshield. End result - WRITEOFF...now replaced with...a Minivan.

Yeh, the wood was resting on the center console. I was resting my arm on it when it went through the car...did a number to the passenger seat though. Definately an original way to writeoff a car.

Too much of a pain to bother...no time...although I did consider taking off my painted headlights and selling them. Oh well, if I ever see an Alero driving around with lights that don't match I'll know they came from my Alero;)

A little goo gone will get rid of that. Wow you are blessed to be alive...I would go and play lotto right now before that blessing wears off. I'm a bit surprised that there wasn't any exterior damage with the amount of damage on the inside. Glad you are alright. Better the car than you!

I don't know about you guys, but I like it! :thumb:
You should do a step by step write-up so we all can have wood dashes too!

Pilate

^^^^LOL...here goes:

Step 1 - Do not own a truck ---- use your Alero like one and go to the store to purchase 10 2x6x14's.

Step 2 - Open trunk, lower rear seats and place down center of the car resting on the center console.

Step 3 - Flag load and proceed home.

Step 4 - Rest your arm on load to ensure it "remains secure" for the journey.

Step 5 - Come to a stop in traffic and hope there is someone behind you that can't see the orange flags (or your car for that matter).

Step 6 - Prepare to be amazed as the wood is launched through the dash.

Now you have a genuine wood dash.

By the way, as a testament to the Alero everything still worked except my aftermarket radio (which was against the windshield) and the hazard lights/turn signals (only because the relay had become unplugged).

It's been awhile since the last post, but I thought I'd see how you were coping, and I have a question...
Did the security light come on?

damage looks like:
- windshield
- seat
- radio
- dashboard
- ignition cylinder trim
- gauge bezel
- radio console trim
- misc. wiring

and whatever exterior damage (there has to be some on the rear... but all the above + labor would be expensive probably

Gr1m
07-20-2009, 08:50 AM
ya all that stuff isnt too expensive, you could get all that from a junkyard for under $500

Pilate

Haven't been on in a while..but yes it was written off...damages of $5500...value of $4750. All the dash, radio, and controls would have needed to be replaced. The dash mount was wrecked too. Unknown if the firewall was damaged. Passenger seat would have required replacing, in addition to fixing metal clips that rear seats fasten too. Some metal would need to be bent back into place to close trunk and top plastic cover replaced. Probably a couple of other things..so all that plus labour.

So far as me, suprisingly I was pretty unphased...definately lucky...only small scrape on arm/bruise where rested on the wood.

Missing the Ho.
