Get home from work, tilt the wheel to full upright and I get one click up and "SNAP"
The lever that controls the tilt snaps off in my hand. It snapped way up high inside the collum.
I can still tilt the wheel, but I'm still replacing it. Won't have time before ASS though.
Other than taking off the plastic collum cap, how hard is this to replace? My Haynes manual doesn't cover it

It's really easy, assuming the mechanism on the column isn't what broke. Just take off the column cover, and the lever basically slides in and snaps into place with a little spring loaded mechanism if I recall correctly.

"You think that's bad!" I remember the time when I broke the shift button on the alero haha that was funny I immediately went back to the dealership and they replaced on the spot! You should have seen the guys face when I brought it in..

Every single time I drive the car. I've had a car with tilt wheel since 1996, even the Delta had a tilt

Most of my cars have had a tilt wheel, but that doesn't mean I used the feature but very rarely! But fixing it should be cake.

I only tilt/telescope the wheel after someone else drives my car and readjusts it. Or sometimes when I wear really high heels and just cant get my knees under it without breaking my ankle.
But to answer your question, I never got into that part of my Alero, but I'd guess it wouldn't be hard to get at. Every car I've torn into has been pretty easy to get the trim around the colum off - even the MINI is.
