paint question

ok so i want to eliminate the front emblem and fill the dip it will leave behind.. my question is when i spray the bumper with paint will the paint code on the stock car really still match ? since the car is 10 years old wouldnt it be a different shade than the rest ( fading and what not)??

what should i do?

it definitely will be a different shade. You'll have to have a professional blend it for you. (if you don't want it to look like someone got a paint enema and farted over your emblem)

lol thats what i thought... the whole bumper would be a different shade....
so a paint shop would be the only way to really go? to get it mixed (i have a guy that paints car)

yeah you just bring a sample (take off your gas door) and they have a sensor or something to get the proper mixture to match

well to have the bumper shaved is no biggie, the bumper is a plastic called TPO, so that means its a offlien type plastic, which needs a adheshion promoter for any type of plastic repair material to stick

we dont fiberglass and or bondo plastic it does not stick and is the wrong way of repair plastic, when i did my front bumper i plastic welded a piece of donor plastic over the hole and kept working the plastic until all i need was a skim coat of repair material

working with plastic takes allot of experience and or knowledge to know how each material works, what sticks what doesnt, how to plastic weld is another method that needs allot of experience, when i first learned how i melted a hole right through the bumper

and from the sounds of things you have no experoence in body work/customizng either, so no offense but this is something that should be handled by a tech that does it for a living, like me ;)

now the whole paint issues if your paint is not that faded out and is in good shape we can get the color close, we can never get a color dead on matching, never! thats why when were matching a color we get it close so we blend the next panles but that gets more costly becasue then were are removing headlights dropping the rocker moldings down removing the fender liners, no tape lines right?? right!!

we have paper test panles that we use when he match and its the only way to get a color close ya dont match paint under florescent light you match in direct sun light or under sun light corective bulbs which all booths have

only on rare occasions do we ever blend up the hood and fenders, only on like tri-coats, and higher end cars and thats only if the color is so bad we have no choice but to blend to achieve color match, a good painter can blend black into white and you would never see the blend

me personlly no need to blend not at all, send me the bumper and your gas door and i`ll take care of it

cause i was considering the andys kit later on , so it may be unnessesary lol

for the incorrect way... there have been people who said they used bondo, and its holding up fine.

but that doesn't answer the question of paint.

any aftermarket kit will need work, like your saying you have no experience i wouldnt attempt it but to make it look and fit like a factory piece it will get costly
