Been searching the site about it and I'm just trying to figure out if I have to replace the sensor or not.
My cooling fans are not kicking on. The Casper Fan Switch still works so the fuses and relays are all good.
Since I switched to the green antifreeze the car's been running a little hotter than normal. Normal in my car is 1/2 way between 1/4 and 1/2 on the temp gauge. Tonight it got upto 1/2.
The only times it gets upto 1/2 is when I'm sitting in traffic on a 90*+ day with near 100% humidity.
fans used to be on just below the 1/2 way mark ;)

Fan 1 On Temp 223 F
Fan 1 Off Temp 218 F
Enable ECT 212 F
Enable IAT 171 F
Disable ECT 212 F
Disable IAT 126 F
They seem to come on also under other conditions.

223 would be over 1/2 way.
IDK it seems that they came on more when I ran Dexcool :ninja:

Just realized that with the DHP PCM the fans kick on at 186*
The sensor's only $18

Because the fans are there mainly to control overheating, which you normally aren't running 212+ F.

Going to check my fuses and relays at breaktime
I ALWAYS have the A/C on in my car and the fans aren't on.
Gotta fix the problem fast, the wife is taking the car on Thursday and she'll drive it until it catches fire, then call the car a POS :rolleyes2:

It's supposed to run at half.. that is "normal operating temperature", around 196 F.
You could have air in the system still, or a poorly performing radiator. Why does mine constantly run above 200? Still working on getting air out of the system... very annoying.

hmmm .. everytime i let an alero or any other car run at work for multiple hours they never even touch half, usually stay inbetween quarter and half

I didn't think about air in the system, but the fans should still kick on.
Probably going on break in 10 minutes :scpimp:
Mine only come on when I turn my A/C on as well, I've seen my car get dangerously above the 1/2 mark until I turn on the A/C or defrosters and knock some heat into the car :( This gets considerably unpleasant during hot days... I don't mean to thread jack but what do I need to replace for them to kick on without me having to turn the A/C / defrosters on?

Just took mine for a drive, they didn't kick on but the car didn't get hot enough.
Pulled into the parking lot, parked and popped the hood, no fans, turned on the AC, fans turned on just like that.
There are 4 relays that control the fans. One for the A/C (#14), one for the cooling #1 (relay #12), a general one (#11) and another one (#15)
Thefuse was fine. Fuse #8 30 amp
All these are in the underhood fusebox.
Working fine now, just going to have to keep an eye on it:ninja:

You do realize that the same sensor is used for both the gauge and the fans...

Yes, after reading some more post and other threads if the sensor wasn't working, the gauge wouldn't be working

Stuck open thermostat, not allowing it to reach normal operating temperature like it should. But HOURS? It should get up to temperature even if it was stuck open... no idea how it can run that cool.

Oh I was replying to Caboose73.

Well just to add, mine runs at half to just a fine blonde hair above while I'm driving. If I sit in a drive thru, it'll inch up to between half and almost three quarters. :( My fans don't come on either unless I turn on the a/c. Just changed the antifreeze since it had been a couple of years since I did last. It is sorta puking some out of what appears to be the overflow. Would it do that if I barely overfill the tank? I only drained the radiator out of the drain plug then filled it back up with water and ran it to open the thermo and drained it again. Heater on. Am watching it to make sure the tank itself is not leaking. That happened once and had to replace the tank.
