Is the replacement interval for spark plugs as suggested by GM good or would an earlier time be better for fuel mileage

the regular interval for the plugs should be fine. But you should routinely check the plugs for carbon buildup, detonation etc etc... Doing this will hopefully catch a potential big problem early
