I read over on Classicoldsmobile.com that a guy replaced his water pump gasket at the same time he switched from Dexcool to green stuff because he heard of his Suburban Fourms that the water pump gasket starts to leak becasue all the goop and crap that Dexcool makes actually make a seal around the water pump gasket and that gets washed away when you flush the Dex-cool.

Now has anybody that switch had this problem? It doesn't make too much sense, since Dex-Cool is the reason the LIMG's leak in the first place

i had to switch from dexcool because it ate away at my wp gasket just like the limg.. no problems yet with the green

Yes I've seen it happen.

Last time I did a waterpump it was in a 97 Century with a 3100. The gasket was just a paper one. IMO if its going to leak its gonna happen. Regardless of coolant choice.

i had the problem you stated ken.

i made the switch from dex to the green stuff and within a week i had to have the impeller and gasket replaced....it was so wierd when i first found out, because i was driving and my voltmeter was dropping down to like 9-10 volts......coolant was being slung out of the water pump on to my belt, on to my hood....and into my altenator.....so lame, instant facepalm.

if you make the switch just givin you the heads up, and i dunno if it makes any more difference i flushed dexcool prolly 1once or twice a year (before converting to green)

although it could of been coincidence.....basically just prepare for it if you do make the switch

When I had my new motor built, we switched to the green stuff......but we did all new gaskets and a new WP anyway. So far it runs okay.....but I've only put about 100 miles on it.

we put a new gasket in when we replaced the water pump, since the housing was rotted. Hopefully, it'll be cool.
