for those that have a yellow top, did you have to cut up your battery tray to get it to fit or did the dude just hand me the wrong battery?

Pretty sure you gotta modify the tray.

it looks like the guy handed me a 34/78 instead of the 75-25 and the flipping store closes in 8 minutes, guess I'll have to go back tomorrow

i have the redtop 75-25 (same size) and no modding was required at all

I tried a yellow top last year, but it wouldn't fit in my '03 tray, and another thing is it's heavier than the red top.

yeah, well minimum wage bob handed me the wrong battery and I was on the phone so I didn't look at it, my bad. Got home took the old battery out, took my air filter off and cleaned it before I realized I had a 34/78 so I couldn't run back to the store cause I'm waiting for the filter to dry and the wife isn't here so I couldn't use her car. Lesson learned, pay some fucking attention once in a while.

I only answered when the dude went to go get the battery. I had to answer the wife's call, I don't want to be without DD's to play with

I think the red top and yellow top are 2 different series batteries

HazMatt24

they are both listed as 75/25

Really?

When I went to buy for the Delta, I was told the yellow top was the only one that would fit, the red was a different series :ninja:

Yeah, they have a yellow-top model that I had not seen. The Autozone here had only the larger one in stock.

The only thing is I looked at the links HazMatt put up, and the yellow-top in the same physical dimensions was rated lower CCA, but weighed a few pounds more. Or did I read it wrong?

i believe that IS correct.

the difference being that the redtop is NOT deep cycle, where the yelllow top is. That chemical difference may account for a few more pounds. I don't know. I thought the yellow top was 900cca, and the red was like 780, tho.

The Red Top is the battery you need... The Yellow Top is for Deep Cycle, Red is for Starting and Running of a vehicle... You would use a Yellow Top for an add on battery to a extensive sound system or lighting.

yeah as stated above the yellow top is deep cycle battery capable of handling current draw for much longer periods than the red or blue top. cca hasn't ever mattered with my yellow top.

red is the car, yellow is deep cycle, and blue is marine

i've known people to go through yellow tops pretty fast in cars...i dont like them at all. red tops seem to last though.

I've only had good experiences with any Optima battery. I had a yellow top in my old Volvo and it was great.
