View Full Version : 3.8 heads on 3.4 liter?

i keep having problems with my rocker bolts striping out of my heads and i drilled out the threds and put in a helicoil... so i was wondering never head of a problem with the 3.8 heads could i put 3.8 heads on my 3.4 block possibley with the supercharger and intake to haha....

Iron heads have a hell of a time stripping rocker bolts. Is your 3400 02 or newer? Some 02 and all 03+ are 8mm rockers, which have more problems than the 10mm used in previous years. I have read a different torque procedure that has your turn the crank so that whatever rocker you are torquing down has the cam on the base lobe (no lift). This way you aren't going against the valve spring pressure.

I've had my '99 heads off several times. Stripped 1 rocker bolt this last time, helicoiled it and haven't had any problems since. Are you sure you aren't misreading the torque specs and overtorquing them? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but...

nope i tqed them rite just the bolt strips out of the head while driving now when im tqing them... i was just trying to figure out a way to get away from those type of heads poss. steel or cast. something that can hold strength...
