So I showed up at my first get together with local racers and car enthusiest with my alero. I have nothing done to it performance wise, didn't talk crap, just chilled and checked out what they had and to see whats going down in my area. So when I left my friend told me they were laughing at how weak my car sounded :wtf2: I mean these guy are all out of highschool or just graduated so they have time and money to work on their cars. Is this how it is everywhere? As soon as you show up you need to be spitting fire can't go to learn anything?

So I guess my first priority is a new exhaust system?

03-02-2009, 11:21 PM
Hummmm its your car, dont mod it for what others will tell you to do. You can ask for answers of course. But plz do not modify something just because others find its cool.

And remember that loud doesnt really mean powerful...

Kruc1fix

Yeah I know, as soon as i can find a job I wanna start building some speed on this thing. Are their normally groups of people in highschool that mod their cars? Ive only really been active about it on this forum site and between me and my friends who also likes cars.

time for a road trip, come up to bandimere in denver and hang out with a couple alero guys, honestly, it's hard to go by yourself because you are self-concious about other guys that know a lot of stuff about cars, but from my personal experiences the real car guys will respect you for trying to do something and learn stuff no matter what kind of car you have, the pricks that are laughing at you now for your car will probably always be pricks no matter what,

so best advice, find a new crowd that welcomes newbs, regardless of car type and knowledge.....

Dont even sweat it man...I found a bunch of fellow N body guys that we always hooked up with...some other guys would come too with F body's and so forth and there were some ricers as well, BUT everybody was cool and it really wasn't much about the cars..we took the pics and stuff, but at the end of the night, we'd be at my house drinking and having a good time and thats what it was really about...just hanging out.
I'd say those guys are a bunch of freaking tools and not worth your time.

These young kids all make fun of my car too, I really don't care.

I also get punks wanting to race me. Why? I mean on the street it doesn't really matter if I kick their ass or not, they are just going to tell their friends "Yo I raced this guy in an Alero and I kicked his ass!" :rolleyes2: Another reason to go to the track, proof is in the timeslip.

Of course the things that mean you want to race around here are really pretty stupid, one of them is going 50 in a 45 :rolleyes2:

Bottom line, don't sweat it. No matter what you do to the car, people are always going to make fun of you. It's not really you, it's them.

But I am curious, what would make your car sound "strong" to these kiddies? Sounding like Craftsmans new line of riding mowers, or the Oyster's spring line of blenders?

Like the hole exhuast system and headers? I wanted to get that dynomax super turbo muffler. I know mufflers need to be welded on but can they come off and be welded again? Because if a complete exhuast is to much money I might just go with that for now then put on my muffler again with the new piping.

Well what does the 'cat' do?

They can custom fab you a cat back and you can do headers later. I walked in there on a Saturday and left about an hour later with mine installed. It's right next door to where Kustom Kar Sound used to be, if you know the area.

I get together with my car club - we just hang out and BS, drink, whatever. We have a few events every year that we go for a "spirited" (read: if you don't get a good run off the corner, and there's lots of corners, you're left in the dust) run. There are also local racing - oriented groups - some that are hard core, and some that are more in it for the comradarie and the safety/learning aspect of tract time.
If you really want to learn something about your car, hanging out with High School kids isn't where you need to be - we have young kids (sorry) in the club, too, and we love them hanging out too. You might not be able to get on a real track until you're 18, but look for a gokart league (seriously) and you'll meet some real gearheads and brush up your driving at the same time.

Until they laugh in your face it doesn't matter. When they do tell them to lick the crack of your ass. Thats my opinion though! Words to live by: Don't go through life worrying about what people say about you, or trying to fit in cause people will always say something about you and you won't always fit in. Be you! I'm glad my teenage years are behind me and I didn't do something I would regret....Good Luck with that!

I say the hell with them.

The Alero isnt exactly a sports car or race inspired even. Its like a turd on wheels in corners... the V6 engines arent exactly powerful and I cant imagine a 4 cylinder being any better.

It is what it is man. Just make it look nice and sound good, audio wise. Heck with the rest :)

Good thing about aleros, is that there are some cheap-o mods. Clear corners, tinted tails, and other junk. Speed is expensive though. As for being embarassed, just make your car sound all fancy. Thats what I do.

friend: What engine you got?

Me: Ive got an all aluminum dual over head cam 2.2 liter ecotec beotch :p

Nah but seriously aleros are pretty special cars, and theres no reason to be embarrassed of them. If you dont believe me, look for an Alero commercial that was posted here a couple months ago. Itll make you feel real special.

Chances are those kids had mommy and daddy put their mods in for them. Don't sweat it. I'm only looking to up the performance to get better mileage and such. Just don't have the resources to do much else. So we're not all looking to scorch the asphalt.

I know where your coming from cruc every town has there douches like in my town there's this guy Donovan in a cobalt ss thinks hes tough S*** he's been through 4 vehicle since he was 16 and we're the same age I'm turning 19 in 2 weeks. he's your run of the mill ricer however his 1st car was a Cobalt Lt with a full exhaust that sounded horrible and he totally ruined the interior of the car trying to paint it to match the exterior. he had a JDM 300zx twin turbo don't know what happened to that and the a 07 f150 but now that he has the SS he thinks hes all mighty its funny cause the only girls that hang out with him are 16 and 15 year olds and his parents paid for everything in his car. unlike me I've paid for all the parts in my car myself. my best advice to is ignore losers like that and figure out exactly what mod you want to do first and how much it costs so it will motivate you to work hard to get it and you'll be surprised at fast you'll have the money in hand.

Is this how it is everywhere? As soon as you show up you need to be spitting fire can't go to learn anything?

If it's Mesa AZ you live in, I get back from Iraq in October-November time frame. I'll help you out with what I can. Have my own welding gear and a little creativity, as well as a few local resources.

I'm in Sierra Vista.

And Mesa is pretty decent sized. I just googled your subway to where I live and it's 28.5 miles, and I live like right on the Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe boarder

BJ is a beastly member who is currently out slaughtering evil in the sand box.

when hes at home, he eats the live young of hyena's and the dreams of children to support his massive protein requirements. jacking your car up by yourself AND still having a free hand to install a turbo, isn't easy.

SO I was hanging out with my friend jeremy and his dad (His dad has the SICK Evo turbocharged and all kinds of upgrades) He took me for a ride and it is just incredibly fast. The Blow off valve sounds so sick to lol

So me and jeremy go out for a drive in my alero and their was this guy we pulled up next to with a realy clean looking car. IDK what it was but it was white, lowered, bodykit, all these stickers on it red brake calipers it just looked so sick.

So I starting reving my engine see if he would race me. lol light turned green and we burned out a little we were racing it was so fun lol and i beat him by like a cars length. I was in the far outside lane with a slight right curve so he had the shorter distance and i still won. It was so much fun I can't even tell you

must have been a slow ass car if you beat him by a cars length with your little 130 hp ECO

i was waiting for someone to say that......140 at the motor, its about 125-130 at the wheels douche lick:lol:

and i know horsepower isnt everything....but your car weighs as much as most of our cars..... so dont bring up weight unless you have a smaller car or a mini:lol:

lol... FYI ...the resaponsible community frowns and street racing and doesn't like when it's talked about.

Also FYI... evos all come turbocharged from the factory. Thier redheaded stepsisters the "lancer" does not.

also also FYI as a general rule regarding stickers... usually less is more. excessive decals aren't good unless you are a greenpeace hippie in a rotted out geo.

and X2... if you beat him by a car length, the car was indeed sick, like... herpes or influenza or something of the like...

well, my eco has a pathetic 35HP per cylinder, while your 6 has a miserly 28.33 per however recent talks with my wife might be resulting in a little purchase from Hahn Racecraft to fix that on my car.

Come to midland it's like that everywhere here bunch of rich kids with nothing to do....

Haaa, I remember eating up a dude with a Civic for something like that. I was following my cousin to some wack a$$ gathering in Colton, CA. A few of the guys laughed but one asked why I brung an Alero to a gaydm get together and I asked him if he wanted to find out. For some weird reason, he backed down when I popped the hood and showed him my stock V6. Maybe he thought I was hiding something!

dude dont even sweat those ball lickers, its like that no matter where you are, i get chuckles when i pull up to a show, do i care?? fuck no!!! allot of guys are old skool old muscle cars, you pulling up makes their stomachs flip, thats the way it is, i hear all the time " look at these fuckin kids, what do they think this the fast and furious"

last week i pulled up to a old chevy it was done rat rod style no paint blah blah...........i lay it out walk away i return he`s right there looking at my car laughing becasue it has 59caddy lights, so ya just have to blow it off dont worry about it, no biggie, fuck them they dont know the potenial that the ecotec has so no biggie dude

ironically... i wouldn't doubt alot of guys say that, because they have no idea how to setup anything beyond an old motor. You incorporate backlighting, stereo, audio/video... they are boned. And highschool mentality applies... if you don't understand it, insult it until it leaves.
