so ive heard alot of differences in the 03 and 04 to previous models. anyone wanna make a list of all the things that were techinically considered a downgrade to the last 2 year models?
i know of the rear drum brakes and i guess the timing for shifting ive heard? also i know they took out the nice little compartment in between the visors on the headliner. what else?

i wouldn't say drum brakes are a downgrade. its not like back brakes are used that much anyway... plus, drums last longer

there's a compartment in between the visors? I think my car has been hiding something from me!! or maybe it's just cause of the sunroof.. hmmm.

don't forget no more hood struts. only 99 and 00 had them. all the other years had prop rods

Metal gas tank changed to plastic after 2000, I think. But I don't know if that is an upgrade or downgrade. :)

omg hood struts i wish damn think about it, no hood struts no compartment no traction no 4 wheel disc just to name a few really think about it they took all those good things away. older aleros r so much better. my buddy had a 2000 a green one it was awesome somebuddy made it a 442 alero it had everything sunroof lighted rearview compartment hood struts it had every option in the book. they changed the seat belts to but i dont think you can all the a downgrade older models have it with the loop on the head rest mines on the side. lol anyone wanna trade a 2000 for a 2004 :) no offense to whoever said drums arent a downgrade im no mechanic but id have to disagree id say 4 wheel disc is deffinantly a step up i wish i had 4 wheel disc.
damn billys alero looks good.

to swap you need the hood, the lower hinges and the struts of the 99..... because they are attached to the hinges and hood and it's factory welded there... but there is another option for you it's called ebay and check for hood struts there are tons of them for cheaps the only things you'll have to will be drill and tap some holes....

o wow now that i think about it that makes sense with the seatbelt loops. omg such a small thing hood struts but i would loveeee to have them im so lazy its so much work to use a prop rod :)

Yeah, I like my Hood struts also.
I think I have the best year and model alero :
2000 GX coupe sport package, manual transmission.
-4 wheel disk (there IS a difference, you have to drive one with and one without to see it)
-Manual (of course)
-ETS
-hood struts
-no power windows (only thing I would have liked them for was for the passenger window, they take weight AND break often)
-No bullshit thing with the airbags when replacing the stock radio
-I do have the little compartment btw the visors, but I just dont put anything in there for the only reason that nothing stays in the damn thing. I tried a CD case one day, and I got it in the forehead leaving a stop sign. I almost forgot it was there lol.
Only thing I'd like is a sunroof, but heh, cant have everything.
