Im woundering if anyone has ever done that or if its even posible. sorry if you cant understand it, im in a rush to get home from school

Is there anything out there open-source that might be similar? Something you don't have to pay for?

there are programs in existance... but i've never seen one thats "reliable"

and they usually require alot of programming to tweak them to work for you.

but i'd LOVE to see someone develop and open source for our board. UBDII(?) to USB.

Damn, wish I could get my hands on one, don't care if I need programming experience. I'd learn just to be able to tune my own car. I've got an extra ECU just in case.

Just get HPTuners; it's well worth the money. I don't know what I did before I had it, it's absolutely amazing. You do not need an 'extra ECU', you SAVE your old tunes, they're files. Big deal. You put 'em on your laptop. Save your stock one, copy it and modify to make a new file. Have a problem, flash the old one back on. Why would you need another PCM?

Everything is customizable. You can log pretty much anything, and change almost everything.

you know how hard it is to program what HPTuners did? lol. to sort through all of the code in each individual car setup and find parameters they can edit and log?

I understand how HPT works. I've done some research into it in the past. The only reason I've got another ECU laying around is because I saved the one from my Malibu when I junked it. It has the same hook-ups as my Alero. If need be, I could plug that one in and re-program. Also, with something open-source, I would only need a program taylored to my Alero, not hundreds of other cars that I will probably never own or come into contact with. The only other option to re-programming your ECU is going with something stand alone, like MegaSquirt II or a similar piggy-back system.
