I recently acquired an alero and have not had much time to do a lot of research about engine upgrades yet. With the alero, what are some relatively affordable upgrades that give the biggest increases to hp and torque.

Not cheap, its just that I am planning on really modding the suspension right now (because these cars squeal like crazy if you take a turn going faster than about 5) and will be strapped for cash for a little while.

^ i think the reason it squeaks is because like you said in your intro that it hasnt been driven that much acutally only 3000 worth, and you never said a year so that might be the reason just a little outta shape thats all. as for perf gains, just do a little search, naich the owner of the site is selling a cheap but good CAI. i'm sure you know lil about perf since you had the integra, pretty much the same deal intake, exhaust, etc.

if you do get the CAI from niach, you'll have to relocate the battery, or "get a smaller one" but i'm not sure that there is one small enough to fit.

The reason for the squealing tires is not the suspension but the lousy factory tires themselves. Get a good set of tires and you'll notice right away a handling increase...

hehe, squeal, not squeak ;) but yea, some good rubbers should fix that problem.
