hptuners is to customize flashes. you will have to take it to a friendly gm garage and have them change the vin in the pcm and then they can put on the flash. there is a thread somewhere that gives u the number they need so they don't have to so on the phone to find them, saves a lil labor cost

Yes you can "Write Entire" and put the GM supercharger recalibration on. VIN is not an issue.

ok then just listen to C2 and ignore me. i just guessed from wat i've heard i never have actually used hptuners.

I don't see why you'd want to by a new physical computer though to do it. Is something wrong with the one that's in your car?

$50 for a PCM and having someone who has the 2000 model year unlocked on their HPT would surely be cheaper than any other way of getting the re-flash.

Didn't think of that, forgot he was 99. Lol. I could flash it for you... if I could somehow hook it up to an OBD2 connector.

I could make a harness for that, but I don't have any 2.4 PCM connectors. The 3400 ones show as a different number.

the pcm im buying says it comes with the harness and connectors

Can anyone with Hptuners flash the GM supercharger reflash onto the new pcm im buying from quad4ld9?

the GM reflash fits onto PCM's with cars that do NOT have EGR. Get an 00+ PCM make a jumper harness as some pinouts have changed most likely. This isn't the most difficult task at all. Then once you have that all setup, just use HPTuners to flash in the 2bar GM s/c software update into your new PCM. Then you can tune and use the 2bar goodness.

The ONLY issue I would think of but I'm not entirely sure about is whether 99 has a BCM or not. Yet, jbody guys that have swapped over I have not heard of having any issues either.

In the sticky it says the pin outs are the same for the grandam so i wounder if they would be the same for the alero if so then the only issue is if i have a bcm so can anyone flash this for me

Not trying to crap the thread, just didn't think this question justified a new one......

ION - if I'm purchasing a supercharger and a hptuner can you send the entire file, or do I still have to pay to have some dealer to reflash it first?

No you just Write Entire with the .hpt file I'd send.

A '99 with EGR is identical to a 2000. No different pins or anything.

Yes, '99s do have BCMs.

So then theres no problem at all cause i dont have an egr so can anyone do this or am i going to have to go beg a dealership?

Yeah, put it in your car, and then connect to it with HPTuners and "Write Entire" using the .hpt file I'd send you. It's not like you can really interface with just the computer alone. Need an OBD-II port.

Well i was planning on running MS-2 so i didnt want to drop the money for hp tuners to use it once

I'd be able to flash it, but i ain't flyin out there.

If you just want to flash the basic tune and have a not ideal tune w/ the extra mods you'll have on top of the supercharger that's up to you.

And there's no real need for MegaSquirt unless you need fine control over 7000 RPM and 14.5 PSI of boost... I mean I know MS-2 has some nice capabilities but the PCM can be edited with HPTuners to do everything most people need it to do.

Megasquirt....lol thats what she said!
Its a nice program, I'm still in limbo as to how to control my boost once it breaks 14.5 SPI. How did that turboed cavalier do it?

You scale the tables to work with a 2.5 or 3 bar MAP.

I thought GM didnt make a 3 bar MAP

I thought GM didnt make a 3 bar MAP

GM has a 3bar map sensor and a 2.5bar map sensor.

It doesn't work w/ the GM reflash.

Personally I don't recommend it.

[ion] C2
02-20-2009, 09:57 PM
well sure, it works, you just have to adjust the values in the tables as if the axes represented the scale that would exist for 3 bar's 0-5v instead of the 2 bar 0-5v range

Caboose73

or you pick up MS-2 for $410 and not have to fake anything

[ion] C2
02-20-2009, 10:29 PM
Right. So go for it. You just have to wire up everything and do a little programming which you seem to think will be ultra-simple. Yet most have enough trouble figuring out how to tune with an already set up HPTuners suite. Why not start with HPTuners, and IF you feel you need MS later on, switch over and sell HPTuners... because I HIGHLY doubt you really need 15+ PSI axes with an MP45.

Caboose73

im not running the mp45 im going turbo i just wanted the gm flash so i could run the turbo till i get the MS-2 running and im not tunning or installing MS-2 im going to pay my friends shop to do it cause i dont know shit about tunning.

gotcha, well MS-2 will be far more robust, but for most purposes (400ish whp and less), modifying the existing computer is fine
