My girlfriends firebird is making some wierd noises. It happens from what sounds like under the car off and on. It happens generally when she gasses it, even in neutral. it sounds like it may be comming from the cat.Could it just be cold weather?

It's probably the exhaust vibrating and hitting either the heat shield or some place else on the body, like the trans cross member. That's where my Trans Am's exhaust was hitting.

my car make the same noise and i think from the one day i had to bust threw a snowbank to get into my drive way and it made the heat shield loose. Can i just loose the heat shield alltogather

My exhaust rattles too. The problem for me is that the exhaust is pushed up against the heat shield. One of these days i will get some adhesive exhaust tape and wrap it around that part of the exhaust so there is some cushion in between it. Problem is...adhesive exhaust tape is f*ckin $40 at autozone....and thats for the smaller roll. I just need a small amount for my problem:No:

That's how I fixed my exhaust rattle, I took a piece of heater hose, wrapped it in "High temp tape" then squeezed it between the exhaust & what it was hitting. It worked. I wouldn't remove the heat shield, it has a purpose, to keep the rug & underbody of the car from getting too hot.
