trunk problems

is there any way to tighten up the trunk. when i drive i can hear it bouncing up and down and it didn't use to do that and its very annoying.....this is without the subs in

I can't remember if the alero has an adjustable mount but if so it would be where the hook/loop connects to the trunk. You prob have to remove the blank protective plastic. and see if there are two bolts there. If so you may be able to slide it down toward the front and if not then moving the latch system up on the trunk might work.

the n-body is known for rust at the striker, ya might want to look there first if ya see the striker just flapin in the wind and rust or a hole where it mounts to the body panle, its goin to have to be repiared

or.............the deck lid latch is shot and needs to be replaced, before i go on to help more i need to know more info on the problem, or a pic

that is exactly what happened to mine. bdyman, would you have any idea what it would cost to have that repaired?

haha, Cost me 20 bucks to have a dude weld the flange of the latch to the metal under the plastic.

Mind you, the rust is still there and it's not a good way to fix it, but it sure as hell worked. My trunk closes.

the two rubber stops, one on each corner of the lid, can be threaded down so the hit sooner and make the trunk sit tighter.

wheres this striker thing i have no idea and where are the rubber stops that can be threaded does anyone have any pics

the striker is the loop on the frame of the trunk that the trunk lid latches too. IIRC the rubber stops are on the trunk lid.

I also have this problem...and I removed the latches to my seats so I can open them up from inside the passenger compartment...and I use bungee cords to keep my trunk shut.

the rubber stoppers stick out and are about the size of bottle caps. if you don't see them, you don't got them...which explains why you have a loose trunk lid.

lol if you have to use bungee cords ya need a latch lol the bump stop raise or lower the deck lid, it does not aid in the closing of the lid at all

to make body lines in say the deck lid or hood or doors remove the striker, and move the panel via bolts, you can push it over to make a body line, the latch doesnt have any adjustment its all in the striker plate, if its not latching even when its all lined up ya need a latch

its pretty simple, the striker is located when your looking at the trunk look down at the front of the opening you will see a loop like metal sticking out of the carpet tie down, thats the striker
