My alero fan speeds use to work only on the the highest 2 and then now as of yesterday none of them work. I know the low speeds is because of the resistor but i was wondering if anyone could help me get them to work. It sucks driving with no heat.

could be the blower motor itself thats wat happened to mine

Thanks for letting me hijack the thread.

When I turn my shit all the way off, it's still on? WTF? Like it gets mad hot when I turn it off, but I feel the heat coming out of it. Is this the norm?

That would be the standard air flow through system, you hijacker. Turn the dial to cold you numbnuts.

lovefrom1977: its probably your blower motor. if your car sits outside it likely froze up thats pretty common. if it doesn't come back it might b bad tho.

zol: one of my friends had that happen to his chevy pickup here not too long ago. your talkin the only way to turn the fan off is to unhook the battery, right? but i don't actually know what would b wrong

Given the way that blower motor resistors work, if the fan doesn't work at all, the problem is not with the resistor.

Could be switch, could be wiring, but more likely the blower motor itself if others have had the same problem.

I had to change my blower motor this summer.

Since our blower resistors and motors are separate units, I think the fuse and relay is also separate. A friend of mine has a Grand Prix, and his resistor, relay and blower motor are all one unit. Try checking all the fuses and the relays. If nothing is blown and you know that the resistor is good, it's got to be the blower motor itself.

Ever figure it out? Mine just started only working on the 2 highest settings, too. I had to have the resistor replaced like 100,000 miles ago. Anybody know how to determine if it is the resistor? :coolio:

throw mine in the mix, only the two highest and the lowest fan setting works

Its your blower, just replace it, it sounds like it went bad or stuck just pull it out and turn the shaft and use compressed to blow out the electric motor assembly.

Wow some of that could have been taken the wrong way.:D

Replace resistor, I have a bad resister as well.

The first two selections on the dial in my car do nothing and the rest work fine.

When I get the chance I will replace mine as well.

Hey guys,

Mine has always worked fine on the 3rd position and up. Just last week it completely died on me for a day and then came back just on the 3rd and 4th setting (2nd last and 3rd last). Now though it just completely died again. Could it be just the resistor pack or the blower motor or both? Also is there a how to cause I don't have a garage right now to work on it and it's gonna be bloody cold outside for the next week here.

Thanks.

Yes you are correct, it is the air flow system.
