So I was driving the other day and I noticed that when I hit the brakes my headlights dimmed significantly. Is the alternator to blame here or should I get my electrical checked out?

Thanks

justin

Probably charging.. your tails pull like 15 amps under braking and if the battery or changing system can't keep up they'll dim.

I know my lights dim when I have the abs active but not normal braking. Do you have a system or anything thats drawing extra power?

depends.

do your headlights dim when you just touch the brake, very gently, thus turning on your taillights... or when you were nearly at a stop, and your engine was idling down?

mine has done that ever since i got it. when the brake lights turn on and draw power it just pulls the rest of the system down with it. its nothing serious like they almost go out but it is slightly noticeable

It usually happens when I am coming to a stop and the engine is idling down. I got two amps pulling power, but this has never been a problem. Just as long as I know it is not serious, I have no worries.

Thanks for the replies...

go have the alt checked, just to be sure.

might benefit you to get a H.O alt.

yeah I had the same problem when I installed my amp (1800 watts, AH!), took it to get the alternator checked and everything was fine, just pulling too much power for it i guess.

where would one find a H.O Alt?

Check battery connections first.

Loose connections would do this too

A lot of people go for Iraggi Alternator if I remember right.

Either cruise classifieds on a caraudio forum, or check out ebay.
