I have a 1999 Olds Alero or some reason the sercurity light is staying on
the car runs fine and start up but now the light is on any idea on what this can be our how to get it off

did you try just turning it off and back on again( a few times) ? usually works for me get same problem every so often/ hope it helps

turn the key to the "ON" position and wait 10-15minutes and then start the car up after that and it should be gone.

Yes, Also, every once in a while you may be forced to do this because it will decide not to start.

the reset is a temp solution.. i mean mine has been on for months.. and once in a while ill have to do the reset because the car wont start.. but right after u do the restart the light will go back on..

I think the issue is going to lie either in your key or ignition cylinder.


Buy a Key from E-bay, and have it programmed and cut at a dealer.

If that doesn't work... then you're looking at replacing the cylinder.

yeah I have done this before when my car would not start I did not know that this would work for the light as well

So I take it that there is some type of computer chip in the key? there for my local auto part store will not have them

There is no chip in the key. Theres a solenoid in the ignition switch that senses if you are using the correct key or not, which if your key is worn out than its not working right and you can't make a good copy from a worn out key.
