no one checked what the DTC was? the SES is on, go check it.
likely IAC
also there's no way it can drop to 0 and then recover

o then it gets mighty close and sometimes just dies im going to try and drive home going to scan it in the morning. and how could one find the IAC? sorry i know zero about cars =[. and one more question i cracked a wheel off over the summer could something be loose in the engine?

Get it scaned if the SES light is on and tell us the code, we'll be able to help you better. Autozone will scan your car for free ;)
Plus, which engine do you have and what year car? How many miles?
Without enough info, I'm guessing vacuum leak, but more info needed.

beyond the vacuum leak, have the LIM gasket checked out.
Redog
11-20-2008, 07:46 PM
^^ well he's lucky, possiblly, the LIMG problem was fixed in 2003.
Does it do this only when the wheels are turned hard right or left? Any loss of power any other time?
I'm thinking MAF or IAT which are both easily replaceable.
krickl
11-20-2008, 07:52 PM
i experience not so much loss of power still has same roar but acceleration is shot =/ crawls up to 30 then kicks into normal speed and acceleration, and it starts up fine but then its got sputtery rpm, ill check out the codes when it gets scanned. drove home from school fine on it, and im just wondering would a engine swap be a bad idea?

you don't change the entire engine to fix a small issue

well if you knew the history of this car and the way my aunt treated it i wouldnt say no to the idea entirely was just wondering. And tommorow morning im clearing corners so i dont get assassinated =p

haha, yeah, i bet its a vacumme leak. get that code!
krickl
11-20-2008, 08:34 PM
will do ! =D hah i hope my golden galloper is ok hahah
and dont laugh but whats a MAF?
o and whats a quick upgrade overall for speed acel and hp?
TheEdgeofSanity
11-20-2008, 08:38 PM
a MAF is a Mass Airflow Sensor. and i won't laugh but i can't guarantee other's won't. people can be tough around here but stay awhile and you'll get used to it. its alot of fun to be addicted to a site like this.
the 3400 isn't as upgradable as the 4 cylinders but a good, quick upgrade would be a warm air intake or cold air intake.

o alright sweet ! i can only change my oil and tires so ill bring it to the shop at school they usually help with installing things like that!
and im staying here as long as my car says alero on the back ahha =]
for the 3400 is there a certain exhaust or set that makes it sound muscle like?
TheEdgeofSanity
11-20-2008, 08:48 PM
well, as for exhaust, every brand has a different sound. abuse the "search" button and there's many threads about exhaust. also, with the 3400 or any other engine, its a good idea to use synthetic motor oil to protect further against wear inside the engine. if properly maintained, you can expect your car to last at least to 130,000 miles. also, it wouldn't hurt to have the transmission fluid changed (not flushed, just changed) because the 4T45E transmissions aren't the strongest out there.

will do taking these to mind =] this car hasnt had a tune up since its been bought probably i think i should do tht ! and are all these things under a thuosand a piece? im only 17 >< haha.
TheEdgeofSanity
11-20-2008, 09:06 PM
i'm only 17 as well. its ok, you'll catch on fast. to have the transmission fluid changed, it costs about $100. its a good investment because it will keep you from needing a transmission in the near future. also, an exhaust shouldn't be over a thousand but if you plan to keep your car mostly stock, a stock exhaust is fine. its not too hard to tune up our cars. to get it up to par, it would be a good idea to change the spark plugs, run a jug of fuel injector cleaner through it, and change your oil and air filter. other than that, keep your tires inflated at 30 psi and rotate them every-other oil change. the oil change rule of thumb is every 3,000 miles but with Mobil 1 or Royal Purple synthetic, you can go up to 5,000 miles between changes.

And let's not forget the Corvette Brake upgrade.
I know Cliff has big front brakes, but IDK of anybody else who's done this yet.
I'm going to sticky a thread from GAGT on here now ;)

That is true. BUT you have over 80,000 miles so DO NOT change to synthetic. It is not recommended to switch to synthetic after 40-45,000 miles. I switched when i was around 35, so im good. But just keep using regular oil now......its too late to switch:ninja:
Redog

^^ I did the switch at about 62,000. I do have a small leak, but nothing too big.
I heard after 60K it's not good to switch

That leak will only get bigger over time ;) 60k is a little risky if you ask me...Either way, he has high mileage and should not switch now. Start looking at high mileage oil......

I think there's 2 other people here who have the 12" brakes. In fact I'm working to get some adapter brackets made to be able to use real Corvette brakes. (choices of 12.8, 13.4 or 14.0 inch rotors) New thread on that soon.

132,xxx miles and the engine runs like new and the trans shifts like new also XP

false. i had a trusted mechanic tell me to use synthetic and only synthetic. my car had 93,000 miles on it when i bought it and at 109,000K its still leak free and doesn't burn any oil. he said that in any situation that synthetic is superior to conventional oil and that you don't have to worry about "sludge" or jelling of the oil if you use high quality synthetic. he said that its an urban legend that its bad to switch at higher mileage.

I use Pennzoil High Mileage.
Considering i have 250k KM's on my car.

ok cars back from shop and the scan said nothing according to mechanic started fines till idles weird but eh ill look into that, and what does it mean my cars sounds way louder and muscle ish is that bad? =[
TheEdgeofSanity
11-21-2008, 08:36 PM
ok. so we'll go to the next set of senarios. when the car idles badly, is the service engine soon light blinking? that could mean you are experience a misfire. maybe one of your spark plug wires is loose. check them to make sure they're on tight. also, if your service engine soon light was on, it should have logged it in your car's computer and shown up on the scan even if the light was off at the time of the scan. who scanned it?

Autozone did ! the car misfired on 3 cylinders a few months back but i replaced them and all the wiring ! =[ is there any other possible reason?
and i noticed something barely any exhaust is coming from my car (its winter can see it ) is that bad? even when i rev it up quite a bit and its smells weird like engine on the inside of the car when i drive it i have to keep windows down what would cause this?!
