OK I was talking to my mech today over the phone and he said I might have to replace my heater core. I mentioned it on here last year and you guys all said the same thing, but it's getting worse and I'm thinking on replacing it before it starts to leak or break althoughter.

Anyway, I know it's behind the glovebox. What kind of expenise am I looking at here to get this fixed?

i have never done it on this car but did it on a previous car (beretta) Most difficult part was getting to it.. On the Beretta i had to remove the entire dash to get to it and this was before airbags.

Well I was told the dash is going to have to come out, just trying to get an idea of labor cost here

I've seen the core prices and I was surprised to see them be in the $100 range. I guess the Delta spoiled me in that respect ($25 for a HC and 2 hours of my time)

pretty I still have the one from my car that was good when yanked out of my car, you can have it if you want to pay shipping, and yeah it sucks to get to, take out the whole dash and wiring is a mess too,

A heater core is usually a PIA to do on any car. Don't go with the cheapest priced part that you can find!

They go bad quite frequently on 1991-1996 Escorts, and rumor has it that it costs about $900 to replace (require removal of the dash to get at it insures huge labor costs).

taking the dash out doesnt take long at all. I took out a dash from a 06 Ranger and swapped in a new one.....with me and 2 of my friends it took about an hour and a half to get out, and 1 hour to put back in. The only thing that is a PITA is all the clips.....lol

Mine went out in mid summer. First quote I got was over a grand with water pump too.
It was out of the way but ended up taking it to the place my family always takes the cars to.... Preacher and mechanic... with water pump: 650.

it differs b\t vehicles on how hard it is. alero's prob. have to pull the whole dash out of the car as said but some ford pickups i know its just a 1 hour job right behind the glove box
